Annie totally deserved that Emmy for that episode. My whole family was bawling during their last dinner scene

annie has these moments where she lets the superficiality of alexis go and she's totally real and in the moment.... and honestly that last dinner scene made me misty. she did such a good job. it was so well written and performed.

Agreed 100%. Among the 4 lead characters, Anne had the most contrasting scenes that showed very different sides of Alexis while the other 3 showed their depth within the characters for the most part. Tne exemplary scene would be the one where Alexis calling Ted outside of the bar. Simply exceptional. No one would guess Alexis was such a whimsical girl watching that scene.

i cant express how grateful i am that they weren't crying on screen during the breakup and just let their emotions come through in their voice, expressions, and actions, becasue as it is i was (and still am) inconsolable during the scene. it wouldve genuinely been too much for me if there were tears on screen as well.

Annie is so opposite of her character. It was really amazing to see just how good she was just by seeing her out of character. Really refreshing in today's very "model-centric casting" world. Annie broke the mold and showed why it is so important to have real actors. This cast was amazing end to end.

She is the best actress in the entire series. And I’m not discounting the inimitable Catherine O’Hara. Annie Murphy is a jewel.

As much as I was sorry to see their relationship, at that moment in their lives, under those circumstances, it was the absolute right thing to do. And they did it in such a mature, heartfelt, respectful way that does their relationship justice. (Though I do like to imagine that Ted comes to visit her after his tenure on Galapagos runs out and ends up starting a vet practice in NY and starting something new with her, now that wandering feet have found their way home).

It would make her feel trapped and that wouldve ended them for good. I think this way, it was an open ending. They ended in a a good term. If they met again in a better circumstances they can always work it out again.

Why not just make it an open/long distance relationship, with strict ground rules, lots of respect and communication with one another

Because long distance is astronomically hard and eventually you will lose that spark at a more accelerated rate then if you were close

That's really sad Alexis and Ted broke up. I do not see a reason for it. Actors are speaking about being mature and adults but why it means their story must end? There is no connection between these 2 things. They finally developed stable, mature and respectful relationship, why end it?

Because they each realized their dreams were pulling them in different directions and to allow the other to sacrifice their dream so they could be together (despite one of them having to go unfulfilled and unhappy) would be selfish. Alexis wouldn't have been happy in the Galapagos. What would she have done in the Galapagos? Just followed Ted around? She'd finally found something she wanted to do and was good at, had worked hard to be at, and giving that up to be with Ted would have made part of her always unhappy and unsatisfied with her life. Similarly, Ted had the opportunity to fulfill a life-long dream, at a vocation he had dedicated his life to. Giving that up to follow Alexis to New York would always be something he'd regret. The truth is that they each could find love again, maybe even love of the same calibre they have for each other, but the opportunity to follow their dreams is much more rare. The heart heals over time and with each new relationship formed. Romantic love isn't the be-all and end-all, not the one thing that people need to be happy and satisfied with their life. Part of being mature is realizing that. And they both realized that they loved each other so much that they couldn't be the cause of each other's unhappiness. So because they believed in each other so strongly, they let each other go knowing that the other would be fine (eventually) and following a path that they had both worked hard towards.

@@nommyyt it's actually much easier. Galapagos that's just writer's idea to take Ted away from the town and Alexis's life. There is no actual reason for this. Ted was living in a small town in the middle of nowhere and then suddenly Galapagos? C'mon. Why not the North Pole? Alexis changed a lot but not only because of her new life in town but also after meeting Ted. She even fall in love with him. Ted also changed a bit after meeting Alexis. And he also loves her. So you have a couple where two people made each other better, there is no fighting, they respect each other, they found harmony in each other. That's a rare thing actually. You should appreciate that. That's especially interesting because you wouldn't think that in the beginning of their story. So why it's so necessary to split them up? After all that was done. Why being mature means this woman should end her relationship with the man she loves? She is not suffering, they have a beautiful relationship. Is that because the story should fit in today's agenda where woman should think only about career but don't have relationship? Why not have both? You can have a profession and a boyfriend, why not? Or maybe they decided 2 weddings at the end is too much and destroyed 1 couple? Anyway I think it would be amazing for the storyline if they stayed together.

No he didn’t! He says in an interview that it was really important for both of them to get something at the end of the series that they never had before so for David that would be someone he could rely on and trust and Alexis that would be independence. It was truly the best decision they made

@@sanasahil563 exactly! When Alexis came to Schitts Creek she was dating Stavros and was expecting him to come save her. She also has so many horror dating stories.
