I'm a huge fan of the Schrade fixed blade knives. For a price friendly edc fixed blade they can't be beat. I really like the fact the new thermoplastic sheaths are ambi carry. Good review, great blade for the price.

Thanks for the vid. I just discovered this blade while searching for a small edc fixed blade with a hard sheath that could be configured for horizontal carry. This one is awesome and I will be picking one up. One tip though...flip the belt attachment the other way and wrap a piece of paracord or a black zip tie through the loose end. This brings the blade right up close to your belt.

The design of the spine is thick but honestly the actual blade thickness is much thinner. I wonder how well this knife would be if the edge was convexed? That's the first thing I would do to it before I even took it outside, give it a nice 20° edge eliminate the V grind and ya got a awesome little blade.

@Kevin Cleary. Thank for the kind words. I like the clip on the 3 myself, would love to have something like that made for it now that Schrade has new owners. I'm just not crazy about the ergonomics blade thinness or handle purchase of it Yes the 55 is made out of thick stock on purpose. If you want to read through this it explains a bit about the perspectives I designed it from www.bladeforums.com/threads/the-schrade-schf55-blackbird-and-some-little-known-facts.1602234/

thanks for this review, I have really been wanting one of these, and after your review, I want it even more. very good size, and design for EDC carry. I think it would be great as a fixed blade to add to my wheelchair EDC. havent found anything else I thought would fit that need.

Kevin, thank you for the thorough and knowledgeable review of this Schrader knife. After watching this video I am happy to add your channel to my subscription list and look forward to watching more reviews. In spite of the drawbacks you pointed out I would love to add this knife to my small but growing collection and would add the SCH 55 to my EDC. Thanks again and keep up the good work.

This is the first video that I have seen your new graphic intro. Cool. That does look like a workable EDC if one wanted to carry a fixed blade. Weight isn't much of a concern for me, it is one of the least of my concerns. The palm swell in the handle looks like it would be very comfortable indeed.

I like it. I like that it has a 4 finger grip handle. I had to research a bunch to get a small blade 3" with a full size handle. I finally settled for the KaBar 14 and 24. Had to build my own wood handles and bring out just a bit on the rear to get a comfortable 4 finger grip. So at about $35 this knife is a good bargain because it comes with handles. I like my Beckers, but I might get one of these to compare.

Will the edge hold up to weekly use in a warehouse environment? Cutting ropes, cardboard and plastics? If could take abuse like I'm suggesting and hold an edge for 1 to 4 weeks it would be perfect imo

Huh, I use it on occasion when I need a rough use edc and sheath offset is fine, I brought the edge back a bit and is a slicing machine. If properly sharpened it works very nice for slicing even with the thick blade stock, have mine phone boke paper slicing sharp with almost no hiss. If your not cutting into gnarly wood or heavy plastics then a thinner blade would be better for you. But those who keep saying it is to thick are using the wrong tool for the job,it's not the knife it's the user.

Jesse brit that’s why I was looking at this video. The only thing I don’t like about it is the belt loop instead of a clip. Forcing you to take your belt off to put this knife on. And the handles. I have the 42d which I love but the grivory is slippery.

The mounting system being a 1/2" from the body makes for quicker deployment should the need to arise to defend yourself. I've had the 55 for about for about a year and other than using a hair dryer to to tighten fit and get rid of a very small sheath rattle it now locks in the sheath like a vault. This knife is simply outstanding. And once I put it on for the day it's there until time for bed. The signs that say no weapons I simply pull my T-Shirt over it. But I find it doesn't upset the sheeple due to it's size. And I must say you're a bit picky about this knife. Sheath clips have their problems also.
