How cool. I am from Walden. My dad tells me at one time there were three knife companies in Walden (Schrade, and I think Walden Knife and New York Knife?) and so the village was known as “Little Sheffield”. I just now came across my grandpa’s Old Timer, probably 40s or 50s. It is a fixed blade with a unique shape.

Thank you so much for sharing, I really miss that American-made quality of Schrade. I have many fond memories of my dad and Grandpa carrying an old timer, just love em.

Love Schrade/Old Timer/Uncle Henry!! Thanks for sharing this information. I did a review of the Schrade/Old Timer/Uncle Henry knives that I have in my collection. Would love to have some more of the Old Timer pocketknives, most of my collection are the hunting knives.

Hope I don't disappoint! The USA made Schrades are my favorites. Their not as fancy as the Case knives, they were just good economical working mans knives. Thanks paddy!

I have a Founder's Edition set with the 3 blade knife, money clip, and in an embossed tin. The kit have not been opened since I purchased it new some years ago. I also have some Schrade, Uncle Henry, and Old Timer knives which I have in my collection also, along with knives from other companies like Case, and Buck.

Thank you for this. I was just researching an old pocket knife that was in my father's things after he passed. The melon tester style knife is marked "Schrade Walden NY USA" with opposite side being marked "SS700 Stainless". The blade also has a very faint imprint that says "Razor Blade Stainless". Given the dates in your research, it would appear that it predates 1958 as it was made in NY. Are you familiar with the melon tester knives and when they would have been produced? I have found lots of examples online, often being used as mediums for printed advertisements etc. with various age claims. I'm trying to figure out if this was my father's knife (He would have been under 14 in 1958) or my grandfather's knife. Just for my own curiousity.

I don't know much about the melon testers, I don't have one (yet). Keep searching. The knife forums should have more information as they are quite popular. Good luck!

Albert bear, I wonder if it's the same family that owns bear and sons in Jacksonville Alabama. Although it is a fairly common name.

Okay , I just saw another KZitem about it and that states the Smith and Wessons Battenfeld announced in July of 2016 it was to purchase Taylor Brands . So it sounds like it's now a Smith and Wesson company
