As always you have the best videos available for true tech talk and comparisons. I've been using Goex since the mid 70s and hated to see them go after over 200 years of manufacturing. But they are coming back and to be announced by Estes the new owner! Swiss is no doubt the best powder on the market but only available twice a year. BTW people are amazed at my accuracy with all the black powders and substitutes I use at the range. But being a 5 decade reloader I've always premeasured by weight and now have lots of guys using the long time method with improved accuracy. Thanks for the video I've been watching for!

Started weighing my B.P. charges too after seeing a video from Everythingblackpowder. Made sense. Had been a thought I had but didn’t deviate from tradition until someone else said no that’s the most consistent way.

I started following you on the forums over 3 years ago and switched to Swiss per your recommendation when we spoke about powder one day and I have never went back..it’s cheaper per shot for the same velocity, it’s more consistent down range..at least for me it has been. Ya just can’t go wrong with Swiss powder

Usually the way marketing works, is they try to get you to use more of something, to get same velocities as other powders. Unfortunate, but true, in Marketing. Consume, consume, consume. An old lead shooter told me one time that anything around 1300-1500 fps in a lead shooter, was good at preventing so much leading in the barrel, which might hinder accuracy. Christ Bless!

So sad to hear goex is no more. The cans of power I have are collectors peices now. Powder very from batch to batch and degrade from the day they are made. Nothing lasts forever so burn it up over the bench 😂. Love it Luis keep them coming.

I agree with you on the swiss powder. i have read that it is more on par with 19th century gun powder. The English recipe was suppose to be the best along with DuPont . Clean burning and good velocity.

I haven't found a production black powder with the velocity that Swiss has, its my favorite power over all just hard to find lately. Triple 777 loose is a bit more energetic but im not big on BP substitutes. Now if I have to use a substitute Triple 777 I like over Pyrodex.

Are you going to try to increase your charge to get the velocity up to were the swiss was?

How does the scheutzen compare to Swiss and goex as far as volumetric compared to weight? I wonder if the scheutzen was lighter weight per volume like it wasn't compressed as much during manufacturing which could lead to a bit slower burn. I can only find scheutzen locally so thats what I'm learning with on my first experience with a flintlock rifle but I've done enough brainstorming to be dangerous before ever even loading my rifle up...

Did something get released by Goex? Last I read they sold to Estes the model rocket company who with grants from DOD were updating the factory in Louisiana to bring Goex back online and back onto shelves. Did that change?

Hi Lewis I'm back to ask more dumb questions I noticed shopping for round balls for my new Lyman plains pistol and noticed they sell .500 diameter round balls at Academy. Do people do a full bore ball with some kind of wad under them, or is that for some funky .51 caliber muzzleloader I've never heard of?
@staceyporter6095

A lot of pistols use a full diameter ball with no patch involved.

Seth Mullins I was just bringing that up that maybe that’s why you found the .500 balls…. I’ve only seen balls with no patch used in a revolver also. I don’t know of any .50 cal revolvers either. That’s an odd duck to find a .50 ball I would think. I wouldn’t shoot a ball from a rifle without a patch.

Have you ever experimented with using 1/2 BP and 1/2 Pyrodex or Triple 7? BP is so hard to find in this part of the country and am trying to get creative on saving powder. I'm curious to see what the velocities are as well as how well it ignites?

I assume you know the problem with substitutes is they are hard to ingnite. Not as hard as smokeless but harder than BP. I know folks were having good success using a 10gr charge of BP at the breech n pyrodex or whatever on top. The black powder touching off it most certainly hot enough to get a good burn without hangfires n clatches like using straight subs. I wouldnt fuss with it but if it just about strecthing it out so you dont have to give up range time it is being done with success. N you can use much less 50/50, all you really need is a fire booster. You may know this by now 👍

Of course you can, but grain for grain, Swiss is better powder.
Where did you get the moulds for the 54cal “I” bullet. I also have the same rifles you have. There built like a tank and have a lot of accuracy potential. I would appreciate your help getting into these bullets. I’m also a hunter and want to possibly use these bullets in the field. Thanks for your informative videos.

They are, spotty shipping. Mostly east coast distributors in 2023. Supposedly they are stocking all distributors now and 2024 is supposed to remain with all distributors being fulfilled nation wide. There is always alot of big talk with these things, that being said my supplier does have it on the shelf here in PA. I couldnt beleive my eyes
