I bought a Schwinn Glennwood in 2019 when it was $199. I’ve slowly turned it into a gravel bike. It now has an 1x11 drive train with a WTB 700c wheelset, Panaracer Gravel king tires. Wake 720 handlebars and Raceface stem, Shimano hydro brakes and a rigid front fork. At 6’2” it’s a good bike for my size but a bit heavy. Pretty much all upgrades have been influenced by this channel. Keep on keepin’ on.

The gearing is definitely leaning towards flat city and urban riding. But I could see someone buying for commuting during the week, then use it for greenways and rail trails on the weekend for some long leisurely rides. It looks to be suitable for that too.

To be honest, the main reason I bought this bike last spring was the name. It looked pretty cool, I was looking for a hybrid bike, and I live off Glenwood Ave in Atlanta, Georgia (AKA the land of a hundred hills). I already had a Schwinn Byway mountain bike that served me well for nearly a decade. I also have a Schwinn Twinn Tandem and two Edison ebikes. But after getting more into cycling, I realized that I was working harder, not smarter by using a mountain bike for all non-ebike occasions. So (although I'm in my mid-40s) I considered the Glenwood my first "grown-up" bike. So I took an Uber to my local Walmart, bought it, and rode it about 6 miles back to the house. The next ride was to my local bike shop for a tune-up. Ironically, one thing I didn't like was the handlebars. So after riding it for a few months, I had them replaced with flat handlebars. The people who assembled it at Walmart stripped the nuts, so I ended up getting an all new stem as welI. But I think the bike is better for it. I also had an issue with squeaky back brakes. I'm 5'7'/5'8", and to me, it's a nice fit, a smooth ride, and while not as light as a road bike, it is far more efficient and comfortable than my previous bike. I guess I've always stuck with Schwinn due to brand loyalty and the fact that I know what I'm getting. For a while, I was thinking that I should have bought a lighter road bike. I also know more advanced cyclists often scoff at "cheap" Walmart bikes. But overall, the Schwinn Glenwood has served me well. I stumbled upon this video trying to find out if this bike is heavier than necessary. But your video (and the comments) answered all my questions and then some. I may make a few more tweaks in the future, but overall, I am pleased with the purchase.

I had this bike since 2021. I used it as a what Schwinn intends to be used for. With 18 miles commutes to work to 30 miles bike rides. After all this time, my thoughts are that it's extremely comfortable. I had a road bike I commuted with and this one made the commute super comfortable. Now I am looking for videos on how to upgrade it. It is a heavy bike bike but it feels super responsive. The disk breaks started to make noise and I had to repair the real derailleur multiple times. I bought it when it was $199 at Walmart for that price it's worth it.

good bike. I had one and it was heavy, but I had to carry it up stairs. If it's in a garage on ground floor you should be fine. Weight did make it ride nice and smooth. You are sitting up pretty high so easier for cars and others to see you. I liked the disk brakes and they were super simple to adjust. Really any height would fit this one size fits all platform. This is a cruiser bike for errands or riding around the streets. I would not use this for racing or off roading. Would be great to put a bike rack or basket on and use for commuting

Walmart's site is currently selling this for $348 which seems overprice given the spec imo. eg. flat-face rear derailleur not even a tourney, no quick release to be found on the wheels, no replaceable derailleur hanger etc. and it's not even an aluminum frame. I mentioned the GIORDANO BRAVA HYBRID BIKE before which is currently on sale for $210 and I think that bike is miles ahead in value compared to this one. Much lower price, also 700c wheels, from looking at the pics it looks to have quick release for front and rear wheel, it's a cassette rather than freehub and it uses a shimano altus rear derailleur while being almost $150 cheaper than the Glenwood. If I was in the market for a bike it would be a choice between Brava Hybrid or the Schwinn Taff Comp you just did a video on.

I have a Schwinn Crosscut. I purchased that bike in 1991. I have suffered with numb hands from the supplied flat handlebars on that bike for 30 years. A few weeks ago, I decided to look into alternate handlebars. There was a lot of good PR for the Jones bar. Due to the high price of the Jones bar, I purchased "batwing" handlebars very similar to what's on this bike. So far - no numb hands. Forget the flat bar. This looks like a good bike. 350 Dollars for a mild steel bike loaded with unbranded components? Are the brake levers composite? When I was watching the video, when you got the frame size I got excited. I'd like to pick up a second bike and 19.5" with 700c wheels and a straight seat tube (for a long seat post) should be ride-able by me. I was thinking with all the low end stuff, it might be pretty cheap. But they want top dollar(by walmart standards) for a bottom of the line of bike. Also, it's much closer to a cruiser than a hybrid with the swept back handlebars. If the price were reasonable, I would be willing to replace the handlebars and seat post (to allow the seat to be higher. I'm 6'3" and the walmart bikes always have short seat posts). But by the time I pay 350 Dollars, plus 8% sales tax and order a new post and handlebars, it's closing in on 500 Dollars for a mild steel bike. If it were chromoly, it would be a steal.

Went to Walmart, looked around, and realized that by the time I dealt with substandard components, I could be in ;real; bike territory as far as cost. Then I looked at direct to consumer outlets. Realized I could get a bike much closer to the spec I wanted (sizes, choice of flat or drop bars, better components) for Walmart prices. Okay, as an example compare this to a "Motobecane" (no relation to the old French company, not that a Pacific "Schwinn" is) Elite Trail LTD at $399. All branded components, Hydraulic discs. I wish people would stop trashing Walmart bikes Walmart offers a good two-year warranty . It is a cheap insurance plan that protects you from damage to your bike bike shops do not offer a two-year plan this cheap. another thing I do not think any bike will last very long if you jump on top of rocks and go downhill over rocks and roots and jumps no piece of machinery can withstand that abuse. Most Walmart bikes are fine for fitness rides around town or commuting no again they are not meant to go down the side of a mountain. Go buy a Walmart bike if you do not have 800 dollars up for a bike shop bike. I actually I do like the glenwood, agreed the frame is the successor to the Taff but with a slightly rounded topbar, although if I were to buy this “commuter”, call me crazy but I would take all my original hyper Carbon x components out of storage and definitely convert to a more stable format, will the conversion work I believe it would.. The treads are strikingly similar to the “continental EZ ride tour”a fast rolling 42mm which I swear by for gravel and for road use, this would be a perfect tread for this wheelset, as for the saddle I would add my wittkop city saddle and to round off my commuter would be an all aluminum schwinn rear rack and there you have it my “hybrid commuter” of sorts, well there’s my assessment… “Ride Safe and Keep on Peddling” 🚴🇺🇸
