Rossiya-2's "Matter of Time" documentary series focuses on science, innovation, advanced technology and future consumer products, dwelling upon simple but important issues.
Shown in this episode shot in Los Angeles are the Cantilever project designed by SCI-Arc faculty member Tom Wiscombe and build by students during a 3-term studio led by Wiscombe, as well the newly established 1,000-square-foot SCI-Arc Robot House, a research space for hands-on collaborative experimentation, advanced multi-robotic platform, and exploration and architectural agency..
Supported by SCI-Arc as part of its Materials Lab Program, Cantilever is an investigation into the advantages and limits of composite materials. Via an asymmetrical structural type-- the cantilever-- the goal was to create massive differences in stress patterns within an object and respond to those patterns in a way which would both index the structural diagram but also exceed it.
Rossiya-2 is a federal-funded TV channel broadcasting across the country's vast territory, with access to over 80 million viewers. Rossiya-2 is part of VGTRK-Russia's largest state-controller media holding company.
