I mean lets be real here. He probably spent a TON of money on that simulation of his wife. A TON! And he only had a 12 month warranty. So clearly he was into his 11th month and wanted to get a brand new model right before the warranty ended. It's all very logical. What I am most concerned about is the security/ return process for the factory/company that sold him those units. Clearly something is lacking as they let one of their units escape and return to its previous location in a damaged state. Most unprofessional.

I both wondered that too, but also, if he was "human" but rage murdered his wife? (because she insisted that one last time that the toilet seat stayed down?) and he downloaded her persona, to a memory stick as she was dying, and so she now she has a sense of free floating dread, but as the last hour of her life was erased, she can never know why? And he of course being a Narcissistic perfectionist with OCD traits about tidiness, and perfection and order, he is doomed to murder her over and over again, cursed like Sisyphus. If they had both been simulants as you suggested then that becomes really interesting, perhaps it was a post apocalyptic, feat. The last "normal" house on earth left standing , TV Show? That a broken down human population tuned into, religiously, for its soothing blandness, and nostalgia for a golden age of TV pap, and it had been running automatically for generations and people tuned into it religiously. But now it was glitching and looping. And the forest couple were just spares, whose parachute, capsule had blown off course. We need to activate Alfred Hitchcock 2.0 the Noir versions would be amazing and he (being a rather unpleasant character) specialised in torturous dread.

Here's a tip. If you are going to be murdered, by gunshot, put your hand up to the gun so the bullet that kills you goes through you hand. This way there's no doubt you were murdered. This makes it more likely your murderer will face justice. I saw that in a old movie. Probably.

It made perfect sense. He paid for a replicant of his dead wife and the program glitched with his first purchase. The second model functioned perfectly until the first model showed up, damaged the second model and made it self aware. Now he has one malfunctioning model that is dangerous and a 2nd model that will now behave outside of the parameters that he paid for; since the customer isn't satisfied I see a refund and a new model in his future.

Great film. The trope of the replacement android loved one - that doesn’t know - has had a mixed history in SF. But Oblivio did it well. Probably because the former wife was set against the new one and the excellent ending of the husband killing them both. But I think more importantly because female actor was outstanding. The two ‘wives’ were so different, but still bound to the man. A nice touch. I am not sure where the pod in the forest fits in, - future spares? (but why out in the forest and not in a lab?) but hey, not everything must make sense. Great work though.

A copy in a different vessel would be anything but old wine in new jars! But the carrot of immortality is being dangled before billions hmmm. Still no Jetsons flying cars yet. The more immediate issue is that intelligent/ creative people would be copied, and in a way that their employers didn't just own their output, they owned their cognitive means of production, they would lose their copyright on their very selves, and a right to that unique style and the right to earn a living. death is not the end but the beginning. It is a summary of the situation we will live in by referring to future technology. The self never accepts that it is a humanoid, its definitive solution is annihilation. Both deaths are fair. Hanry wanted to survive the absence of his deceased wife with a copy. Maybe Hanry was a robot too, she dreams in a tube with her husband in her dreams. probably both of them continued as robots as a result of the agreement they made with the company before they died years ago.
