Hi, Puertorican born and raised on the island, and I wanted to say that you did a great job explaining the lore and myth of the Chupacabra and how it originated in Puerto Rico. I remember it being a Puertorican pop-culture phenomenon with people both being genuinely scared and fascinated by the creature as well as mocking the silliness of it all. Local mayors even went as far as to stage major hunts for the Chupacabra, one of them being Chemo Soto, which was later nicknamed Chemo Jones (as a parody of Indiana Jones) because he was set on finding the creature and proving its existence. There were many songs written about it and it was parodied on Puertorican TV all the time. So I appreciate that you took the time to explain the true origins of the creature. Also funny how the movie has a creature that originated in Puerto Rico yet sets it in Mexico and has two actresses that are native Puertoricans voicing Mexicans... Guess this proves the old mantra of Latinos = Mexicans, am I right? LAWL . But seriously good job providing the context for this movie!

I think it’s just that countries try and replicate another’s myths or history or whatever and just fall short. But honestly it’s fun to sometimes play along with their mistakes. My favorite example is how American westerns (cowboys and the Wildwest) originated as a movie genre in Italy. That explains why they portray frontier history so poorly. But westerns are fun movies that’s why they managed to do well in the country they were originally appropriated from. @@RYMAN1321 some inaccuracies about Australian wildlife can be life threatening for children if you actually live in Australia, it's like how they banned an episode of peppa pig in Australia because it told children that you shouldn't be afraid of spiders. If a kid in Australia who still didn't know much saw their favorite dog getting close to a kangaroo or any other animal they showed in the film and thought it was safe to do so they might end up seriously hurt or killed. Some times especially when for kids who don't know that TV lies inaccuracies are things that are substantial threats. It would be fine if it were cultural inaccuracies as that will only make someone laugh or get upset but wildlife is a different thing entirely.

As a Puertorican that lives in Puerto Rico it is thanks to this video that I found out El Chupacabra’s legend came from my island. I was always told it was from Mexico and never bothered to check. I actually have a distant relative who claims to have seen it and has made a few drawings and paintings of it, but I never made the connection that it was from here. I haven’t seen this movie in a while and even though I’m not Mexican I can see the issues, but I still find enjoyment from it. Great vid and a nice refresher with a newfound perspective now that I’m older.

Got to say, as a Mexican, the main (if not only) thing that annoyed me about this scobby movie was the whole thing of making el chupacabra be 'mexican bigfoot'. Pie grande is bigfoot, locals would not call that thing a chupacabra. While chupacabra does not originate from Mexico, I get that it is generally associated to Latin America and Mexico would be a convenient country.

Mainly, I remember being disappointed that Scooby-Doo went back to the formular of the old show. I got that for the tv shows but I always thought the movies should strive for grander stories instead of the costumed criminal of the week plots. Also, as a Puerto Rican I didn’t care for their portrayal of the Chupacabras. It was already annoying enough that to most American media Latino meant Mexican (no offense to my Mexican brethren, it’s just annoying how they lump all of us into one hat so to speak), but for them to get e Chupacabras that wrong? Just killed what little interest I had for it.

I don't know if you read this, I really had my doubts about watching the video, I was afraid that it was just another gringo getting offense for the Mexicans. However you did a lot of research, I must admit there are a lot of things I didn't know about the chupacabra, mostly because I never get too interested or care too much, and I only got to see two news about it in real life. However, there are other things that I don't agree with, like calling Fred or the gang "appropriate to the culture" by wearing charro hats, or "sombreros" as you call it in the US, and guitars, we literally sell those things to foreigners for that they wear it among other traditional clothes, that's the point. And as someone who is learning another language, I liked the detail that Fred made a mistake where to put the ñ, when you learn a language it is normal to have mistakes like that, especially with letters that are foreign to your mother tongue. The only thing I could say was culture appropriation was looting the tombs, the design of the catacombs and the clothes, it doesn't bother me, it's just that they didn't dress like that at all, but it was funnier than anything. It really is one of my favorite movies I watched it all the time on CN, and it never bothered me that the chupacabra didn't look anything like in the legend, mostly because among the researchers no one could agree on his appearance, even if the more popular versions looked like aliens, I remember discussions about that, so I think it's not bad if they went for their own version of what the monster looks like. Overall very good video. Here in Mexico I always believed that the legend had appeared from the north of the country, not from Puerto Rico XD there were conspiracies that said it was a US project or weapon, since most cases happened between the border of Mexico and the US, at least those that I heard.

Yeah, I adore this movie and have since I was a kid, so I don't think anything in the movie is actually offensive or trying to be, it's just fun to look at the various things throughout it to see what they did do, accurate or not. @@Scoobytopia Honestly, watching this movie in English makes much more sense than in Spanish XD There are many parts that I hadn't even noticed that depended so much on the language, although I have very fuzzy memories of the movie.
