My favorite part might be how this camp serves as Fred's origin, explaining his physical build, his handy trapping skills, his observant nature, and most importantly his ascot. It completely contextualizes his character in a way that makes sense and reinforces his existing qualities.

Looking back, its amazing that it took Scooby Doo THIS long to do its own take on the slasher genre of horror. Especially when you consider how so many famous slasher films unknowingly took inspiration from the Scooby Doo formula (specifically The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Evil Dead, Friday The 13th franchise, Night of the Demons, Scream franchise, etc)

I think my favorite part of Scooby-Doo: Camp Scare is the fact that the villains actually seem to threaten the cast, there were some moments where it legitimately seemed like people would have died if the film was rated for a more mature audience. Also I haven't seen this film in years but even watching this video I'm kind of surprised by how Mystery Incorporated-ey this film looks and feels, like not just in terms of it's plot direction which the overarching mystery and the way that develops here are very similar to Mystery Incorporated, but the character designs for the monsters and the animation style as a whole are also very Mystery Incorporated-ey and I like that a lot. Mystery Incorporated was the first reboot show to a franchise I ever watched that got me optimistic for the future of other old franchises I am a fan of because it made me think all they needed was for someone to take them revise the concept with a more modern art/animation style and introduce some new concepts and characters like they did with Mystery Incorporated, and I'm glad to say many of them have since gotten such a reboot as well (Rise of the TMNT, anyone?)

one of the best camp movies of all time this is a classic movie in Scooby-Doo the villains are some of the creepiest in the franchise i do wish the specter had more screen time cause that thing was really creepy with it's shriek the fish man's story Fred told honestly terrified me as a kid cause it made me worried about swimming too long that i'd become a fish monster (nowadays that'd be awesome to me) as for the fish man himself he's awesome and reminds me of Jaws quite a bit and the woodsman dude swings a literal axe at people and that alone is creepy the actual villains Babyface Boretti and Knudsen are interesting Boretti is awesome and Deacon being him is a great plot twist as for Knudsen...... he needs to leave Velma alone cause she's probably 16 or 17 in this film and who knows how old Knudsen is

This movie had a great opening especially the fact that he used a weapon not unheard of in Scooby-Doo but in this case he looked pretty determined and scary but once they got to the camp and all of the kids started getting involved it devolved back into a generic monster plot if they had just stuck with that opening and solve the mystery without bringing the children in it I think we would have had another zombie Island on our hands now on another note be cool Scooby-Doo had an episode called be quiet which actually reminds me a lot of the movie psycho. The other thing about this movie is that there are just too many side characters and not enough interaction with our main heroes everybody going off with other people kind of defeats the purpose of a Scooby-Doo mystery in a way.

I actually recently rented this movie from amazon to watch it again. The only thing I remember from watching it before was that Deacon was actually the mobster. I still liked the movie, but when I watched it again, I realized something. When they unmask the fish monster, they see the woodsman mask too. Then they find out that the ranger was both the woodsman and the fish monster. During Velma's explanation, she surmises that the ranger was also the canyon specter, but I have to argue this, and say that the canyon specter is a third accomplice. Someone who is also now dead. I know that there are no definite times and distances given, but it seems like the canyon is very far from the lake. Then how would the ranger go from being in the bottom of the lake, assaulting Fred, Daphne, and Jessica to the canyon in just the next scene? It still looks like midday, and as the fish monster, he'd have to have lots of scuba equipment on his body. The time it would reasonably take for the ranger to be the canyon specter is unreasonable. Second, as we see in the end of the chase when the canyon specter is attacking Velma and the gang in the car, Velma hits a rock column which falls on the specter. Whoever's in that costume is dead. They didn't do a last minute dodge, that rock column fell right on top of them. There's nothing left of that person but liquefied DNA. So obviously neither the ranger nor Deacon could've been the canyon specter. Another thing, when they unmask the ranger at the end, he's wearing both the woodsman and fish monster masks. If he really was the canyon specter, why not also be wearing the canyon specter mask? Simple, he wasn't the canyon specter, and he did not have access to the mask anyways. (since it was squished under several tons of rocks) What would a good summer camp slasher movie be without at least one gruesome death?
@Neonclown_7

Honestly, whether others think of it as bloated or not, I quite love the variety of legends instead of just one monster. It's a lot more unique, and there's something terrifying about Fred telling the story of the fishboy only for mere moments later seemingly the monster he just described coming to attack them. Edit: I usually don't like the unmaskings in Scooby Doo, cause I prefer it when they're real, but holy SHIT did I love Deacon's reveal - little bastard pulled a Baby Doll.

While Camp-Scare isn't my favorite of the modern era Scooby films, it's definitely a really good one, and I love the horror-film influence and darker tone and setting. Abracadabra-Doo is my favorite of the modern Scooby Doo era movies, and I always liked that Abracadabra-Doo and Camp Scare had darker, more serious tones that were more similar to the '98-01 films than the rest of the modern films. I really wish that had continued with the following movies, rather than the comedic and goofy vibe Phantosaur and the following films had. Scooby Doo lends itself to the horror genre, and generally serious and spooky settings, very well.

This one is so much fun with a great set of villains that add to the horror movie feels, a fun new set of movie only characters, and some of my favorite gang moments. I love Fred's arc in the movie and how fun yet capable he is as a character here. Jessica is a nice addition and I like it adds to the idea of the both camps not being all bad and allows for a nice compromise in the end. The stuff with the twist and even the extra monster battles are fun and I love Scooby getting in the van to take out the fish monster. It's honestly a really badass scene that works to give him a good ending. I admit some of the film can drag but it is very enjoyable! I still like Loch Ness Monster more but it is in my top 5 for this series and their movies.

There's a theory that this story does have a connection to the "Mystery Incorporated" incarnation of the gang (cosmic retcons aside) in that some believe this version of Fred to have memories of being raised by a distant, fake father and consequently the reason he loves Camp Little Moose so much is because that was the best place to find substitute parent figures.
