There’s a LOT of context missing from this video. Both the original and this “review”. Burnside skatepark changed the face of skateparks and in particular DIY parks around the world forever. This was the first DIY project to ever gain acceptance and stewardship over the area from their city. They set a global precedent for cities and the way they treat DIY projects. The skaters at this park built, paid for, maintain(ed), fought city (and won). They know what they have, and they protect it fiercely. One thing I think this video really missed is that the attitude at burnside isn’t solely focused on scooters. Skaters from outside are also looked at with suspicion and it’s not a place you’re gonna just roll up (even on a skateboard) and join a maxing session. I’ve visited 3 times as a skater and I got kicked out one of those 3 times too. I simply wasn’t a good enough skater for that session so I was basically told to sit on the sidelines and enjoy (which I did). I was kind of akin to the kid practicing kickflips in the bottom of a bowl when you and the crew are trying to skate the bowl). Do your research on this park, it was and is an epic feat and huge part of skatings culture and history. Thanks to this park and its builders, we have Suuvilatti in Finland, leeside in Vancouver, sheep side in Hawaii and other MAJOR skater built and funded DIY projects around the globe from NZ to Denmark. It’s a history worth looking into as a skater. Know your roots!

Thanks for giving me some relief on my lunch break while I deal with work way above my pay grade. They irritated that lady on purpose. Probably for content. This kid films without permission for his YT channel which if he’s making money on is considered commercial use and obviously requires permission to film. Is told “okay, you can scoot for a little longer but you’ve got to go because we are painting, etc” by the owner. Then when the Scooterers disregard the owner she gets irritated that they’re disrespecting her ownership and authority over the park. Do they leave ? No. they move somewhere else to film inside the park and are surprised they got met with animosity/hostility. “We aren’t doing anything wrong” He should go into a school where he doesn’t have a class and just sit in the corner silently. Like you are not actively doing something wrong but you’re not supposed to be there goofy. “I don’t understand” try maintaining a skatepark and maybe you will.

I think Burnside want to keep the reputation of a "no scooter park". If you let in a few, even if they're good and respectful and know the etiquette, others will follow who aren't so fun to have around and before you know it, it's swamped. When we complain about scooters and being snaked/blocked/inconvenienced/etc, scooter riders will say "that's just the kids! we don't like them either" which IS true, but they also need to realize that the "scooter kids" make up 99% of all people on scooters! I swear in Norwich, not a week or two goes by without one of the skateboarders getting injured because of someone riding a scooter, sometimes just a grazed elbow, sometimes worse and I don't blame the kids... they're kids.. it's definitely the parents fault but regardless, the place becomes unusable past 10am on weekends unless you want to risk your health or hurt a child.

As a scooter rider myself, I’m on both sides. I’m very thankful to have a community in my city that includes us and even has some small events with us. So it really sucks to see lack of inclusivity among other riders in the world. Obviously, when the owner of quite literally anywhere tells you to leave… just leave. But you also don’t have to get physical, there was ignorance from both parties here. I took broadcasting and television for film and have been in the film industry for quite sometime, the stabbing thing was clearly just a retention hook, but in the end, it was a little much. Either way, i love your stand point on how we’re being treated how skateboarders used to be treated and how street skateboard culture quite literally is built off of being in places your not allowed. Skateboarders were (and still are, especially in the UK now) a dime a dozen, whereas there are swarms of scooters because it's easy to pickup and learn the basics, and even once they have, they can still have 0 park etiquette or awareness the majority of the time, especially when it comes to adults that just bring their children down to let them run rampant.

I disagree on keeping bikes/scooters out because bike pegs or scooters damaging obstacles, what makes them different than skateboard trucks? They're all metal and can do damage. As far as little little kids, they just want to go out and have some fun and do what the big guys are doing. Maybe take the opportunity to take a little break and talk with/help them out and teach them, you were one of them at one time, think how you felt when one of the "cool kids" talked to and helped you. As you said, they don't know the UNWRITTEN etiquette, and you know the parents don't and aren't going to do anything, take a break and try to teach the kids what is considered acceptable and what isn't, if they're playing on an obstacle, then go find another or ask them POLITELY if they can move to another so you can skate it, or ask if they want to help you and maybe "judge" your trick on that obstacle, it'll get them off it and you'll have your own cheering section. It's a SHARED space, it's not all about you, they have just as much right to be there and enjoy the park as you do. They're little kids you should be motivating and inspiring them, not pushing them to the side, they are the future of the sport, do you want them to grow up being just as rude and disrespectful and give the sport a bad name, or inspire them to push the limits of what can be done. I do however agree, parents need to pay more attention to their children, not just unleash them on the park, then stare at their phone the whole time, the park is not a free babysitter for them. Little kids need to be taught, teens however, they just do it to be dicks. I also agree, the owner was being nice and allowing them to be there, but when she said it's time to go, they needed to go, they were being disrespectful by not listening, knocking the camera down was the wrong way to go about it, but "You get what you give," be disrespectful you get disrepected.

The park was made by skateboarders in a time when concrete skateparks barely existed. There is nothing inherently wrong with scooters. The problem is the majority of scooter riders don’t practice the normal skatepark etiquette. It’s simple. Don’t be a hazard to those around you and no one will care what you’re doing. But having a scooter free skatepark sounds amazing.

Biggest problem with scooters is that they are easier to play with so you learn to ride before you learn the rules. With a skateboard it takes time so you can go fast and snake someone. I have a 4 year old daughter who rides a scooter and I have to teach the "rules" really often. I teach her, but I see alot of parents that just let the kid go and play with their phones or something. While ago at our local skatepark a bmx ran into a small kid and I think that kids upper lip split in half. A skater friend told me that he was there and had to call the ambulance cause the childs mother was in panic mode.

Scooter kids' parents are the real plague IMO. I mean you wouldn't let you kid run around on a football or rugby field with 20-30 adult playing a game, so why the fuck those people think it is acceptable to drop your small children in the middle of people riding fast on wheels without proper education, etiquette and actualy keeping watch on them. I'm more than happy to have small kids at the park rather than in front of the TV and you gotta learn some days, it's the same for child skateboarders, but releasing a swarm of unconscious brats without etiquette in our path is just dangerous for anyone, and mostly for their offspring (it's simple physics e=MC2 an adult going faster deliver much more energy upon impact to a small kid than the other way around). The worst in this is that as an adult, even a beginner, you are being made liable, you are expected to be the one to be carefull and those entitled parents would definitely blame you if you'd hurt their kids, even if that's their own fault. Aside from all of that, I've shared nice sessions at the bowl with scooter teens and I don't give a damn what you ride as long as you start by learning how to behave before everything else.
