The Knights Hospitaller and the Knights of Saint John were in fact not different factions, and they didn't come from Malta. They wound up there and lasted a really long time, remaining a thorn in the side of the Ottomans up into the early modern era. They are also, subjectively, way cooler than the templars once you get to know them.

And then they followed the Ottomans to the New World, beat the shit out of Aztecs, and destroyed the fountain of youth before knockoff illuminati could get to it. At least that's what Age of Empires taught me.

Totally agreed. The Templars get all the press, but the Hospitallers put in the work. They were a thorn on the side of the Turks and the Barbary Pirates for centuries, and unlike the Templars, they still exist! (It took Napoleon to boot them out of Malta.)

You really need to send an army to northern Anatolia to retake all the claimed territory. If you do that I think your faction leader can be crowned and that will lead to less troubles when he dies. Love the series so far, would absolutely love to see you do more of the historical games.

Hey, Izzy. The Knights of St. John and the Knights Hospitaller are the same order. The official name is Knights of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem. Started in Jerusalem but ended up on Malta. They decided to take Rhodes from the Byzantines after the last Crusader stronghold, Acre, fell in 1291. Then in 1522, Suleiman the Magnificent sent the Knights packing. They were given Malta in 1530. Edit: spelling

Hey Izzy here are some tips. You might know some or all of them but this is much harder than DAC so it would be a shame to end the series with a defeat. 1) Have a good assassin and merchant because enemy priests/imams and merchants can cause a havoc if unchecked 2)If you get a jihad declared on you it is much better to surrender the city and conquer it again than to fight close to endless amounts of enemy troops. 3)When your faction leader dies prepare for unrest all over your kingdom. It will all calm down once your faction heir(now new leader) has enough authority and becomes a king/emperor.

Consider capturing or buying your ancestral territories to pursue a crown, the other faction will probably be less aggressive towards you as well.

Hey Izzy! Love the new campaign! I'm looking forward to seeing how you go about it and might try a Byzantines run of my own this week! I have some tips for you that I plan to use in my own campaign: 1) Keep all of your coastal and island settlements as cities. This allows them to max out their ports and sea trade, and as the Byzantines you can still get a lot of your main line troops from the city barracks tree. It also allows you to get max upgrade churches which is highly important for fighting the Turks. 2) Take your time in the battles. Byzantine forces don't have the good morale and stamina that most European factions have. As such the benefit from having a more cohesive battle line where individual units can support each other more easily. The Byzantines are all about that slow, relentless grind of heavily armored troops, supported by good archers, and a mix of versatile missile cav and super heavy cataphracts. You will have a technological advantage on your enemies until the gunpowder age, so bullying the AI early is a must! 3) Invest in your navy! Fire ships will dominate the Mediterranean until at least the point of the Black Death (when the Italian States start getting large and huge cities). Also troops travelling by sea will not ravage the countryside for supplies, will travel further than on land, and can open up multiple attack vectors on enemy forces. Your navies can also cripple enemy economies, as you can see in the settlement details tab just how dependent you are on trade income for your faction's finances. 4) Invest in your settlements' infrastructure. Law is one of the best things to have maxed out early on, because as you expand corruption will become more of a problem the farther you get from your capital. (Same reason people move their capital from Minas Tirith to Tarnost or somewhere like that in DAC). I hope this helps brother. Keep up the good work, and remember above all other advice to just have fun with it!

When you swap one governor for another, remember to give to the new one the governor trait that the previous one had, when in a settlement for one turn without a governor trait, automatically the game create it for you, but only if it didn't exists yet. In the other hand you need to give a new title to the of you strip his title off or he will feel betrayed

Another tip, every cultural trait, Greek blood, Hungarian blood, aragonese blood, etc, have a different effect, and they could stack though various generations of you are intelligent with who the princesses marry, one faction at a time, always be sure first if the character have the blood of... Trait, not everyone have it! You could m manufacture ridiculous characters in the late game that have 10 different cultural traits 😂

Those Armenian units remind me of the chads that the Armenians of Cilicia get in Broken Crescent mod, especially with the "buff and shine" submod for extra RP ;) That faction is full of ultimate badass units if you use them right; but they need to be given their starting position. Regardless, lovely choice of a series Sir Izzy! :)

Oh god I wrote a whole long comment and KZitem couldn't post it and now it's gone :) Briefly, you have zengid and great seljuks behind the rumi seljuks. So killing them will increase your enemies. Try to get more than one invading army. Also, eastern Mediterranean trade node is king in vanilla. Holding those settlements will significantly increase your income
