This knit sweater is a naturally dyed, handmade favorite during these warm summer months. The broomstick lace detail adds character and breezy fun. I dyed this wool using my stash of dried yellow onion skins (including shallots) specifically for this project: fingering weight, super wash with an alum mordant. Super wash wool dyes beautifully and can create a fabric with drape that is perfect for this type of sweater.
Using a solid color for this project also gives me the option of overdyeing it in the future. This is one example of how I plan my knit projects when using naturally dyed wool: when I use one color I want the knit pattern to have a lot of interest, and I want the option to shift the color in the future.
