Hey everyone! Here's the next episode of Breaking Chords with Scott Henderson's Stacked Fifths Workout. I've been working on a lot of Scott Henderson's music and lessons lately, and stumbled upon this slick stacked fifths lesson a few nights ago here on KZitem. I felt inspired to create/share this lesson with viewers out there, as this idea is very interesting and modern-sounding, and could lead to a variety of great licks and ideas, no matter what style of music you play - so let's dive in!
The ideas shared in this lesson were pulled from Scott's candid video, but I was first exposed to this sound and intervallic approach through Joe Satriani's music - as you can distinctly hear this sound in songs from Satch, such as 'The Mystical Potato Head Groove Thing' and 'Power Cosmic' (to name a few).
Once the comparison between Scott and Joe's approach for grabbing this sound are made, we return to Scott's musical universe, by reworking the arpeggio using different minor/major tonalities, moving the concept through a chord progression, a slick octave-linked Phrygian-based idea, and much more!
Needless to say, if you're a fan of Scott Henderson's music, a player looking for some slick ways to move around the fretboard, a guitarist looking for some modern sound to add to their trick bag, or maybe you're just curious what all the fuss is about - this lesson is totally for you! Give this episode a view, leave some comments/feedback, and please subscribe to Late Night Lessons - THANK YOU!
