Love this. My Dad drove in the Red Ball Express. He'll be 89 this month.

Scott's words aren't just lyrics, they paint a sublime picture across a broad canvas of situations, feelings and emotions. Miller digs deep, and most of the meaning of his songs fly way over the heads of casual listeners. The man knows his history. So headphones on, eyes wide shut, ready to float away atop his musical landscape.

My Step-Dad was a Red Express Driver in WW2 and I was 64 Charlie, during the end of the Vietnam Era. Driving trucks in any War, is a very dangerous job.

Felt the bump and it's time to go.Bump from what? The truck behind you.Benzedrined.Oh there were stimulents given to our troops.Who knew?Cats eyes.Black out lights that's what.Scott knows his history but I fear most who listen to his songs don"t fully appreciate his songs and what they tell.

Pressures low. Tire pressure. The GMC CCKW's run 55psi on road and between 35 and 40psi in mud to keep traction

One of my uncles drove the Red Ball. He would have been 97 or 98 this year. There was a version of this song in the late 50s or early 60s. I don't have a clue who did it. This is great. I don't encounter many people these days that heard about them.

The photo at 2:37 og all the vehicles in staging for convoy- thats such an impressive picture when you think about it We built thousands (probably millions) of deuces and ambulances and half tracks and, of course, Jeeps We sent so many overseas so fast Hitler couldn't comprehend it But we lost thousands od trucks and each truck was atleast two men And it was an insane task just to keep them running(let alone the tanks) The redball and all the men who worked on that logistical nightmare of transport did so much more to help the war roll on than we could ever credit them with

Ah, I gotcha If you look at the individual roles of everyone in an army, there is no such thing as an unimportant job.

Friday is absolutely correct. I have admiration for all who drove the Red Ball Express. But, the contribution of blacks is hardly mentioned in all history books. In most history books is the author rewriting history

I don't think Scott Miller was responsible for putting the video together, but you're absolutely right...the Red Ball Express was staffed by primarily Black men.
