I had no idea Scott Pilgrim vs. The World did so badly?! It's always been one of my favourite movies ever since I first saw it shortly after it released... Kinda reminds me of what happened with Jennifer's Body (2009) and how that was horribly mismarketed, then misunderstood and ignored for over a decade (also Young Neil says hi from that film!). And yeah I absolutely started collecting the Colour Hardcover volumes when they were coming out because I love this movie so much. Having FINALLY read them almost half a decade later... I still prefer the film? Yeah Ramona's lost a lot of agency and the overall story's depth and specifically Scott's awfulness at adulting and being a decent person are somewhat lost... But between the comic's sometimes bewildering twists and turns as well as the VERY 2000s use of slurs... The film's just a better time with this story...? Excited about the anime (if it still happens), though! And the game was finally re-released, too! :)

Yeah certain aspects of it have certainly aged poorly I remember O'Malley commenting on the regret he felt as an Asian man portraying Toronto as so white Mentioning how on some level maybe the story was his way of projecting what it would be like in a "white boy" fantasy world (I'm Paraphrasing, not his exact words) Never been to Canada, but as a minority creator as well and noticing this aspect of a lot of stories even from other creators of color; It gets me wondering how different the animated series will actually be and how many things will be changed Will they pull an invincible and have th mc also go from white to Asian in ththe adaptation?

I disagree with the conclusion. It was not " Nerd culture" that killed the flawed movie. They were selling to people who had no money.

I enjoyed reading Scott Pilgrim vs the World. Thank you for reminding me that I read it once before. It was a nice experience. I probably need to read it again.

Tbh I didn't watch it originally because the marketing focused too heavily on the fighting for me, it didn't rly sell that it was a comedy. I remember the first time I watched it, it was on one of the movie channels and I put it on as a joke with my sister and then unexpectedly got invested. It turned into one of my favorite movies and I annoyed my other sister (roommate) by then putting it on literally whenever it came on TV so I've seen it so many times

Not sure how you can look at the endless deluge of DisneyMarvel productions and think that's in any way a positive for the media landscape. Even if, at best, they have some talent working on them, everything is sanitised and censored within an inch of life to have maximum market appeal. These megacorps are literally killing the industry and smothering legitimate and indie art as they go. (and oh my god aren't you tired of adaptions adaptions adaptions nothing but adaptions for the past decade everyone too scared to take the risk on new ips)

The movie was a rip off of #Slackers but with special effects and celebrity cameos.
