Speedrunning my new weird obsession: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. I'm starting this series with a new goal in mind:
1) Learn every* character's speedrun technique.
2) Post an honest attempt at a speedrun.
*obvious and boring duplicates notwithstanding
Yeesh. Talk about feeling your age. Knives is a technical character who is really active and fun to use, she gets to make a lot of moment-to-moment decisions on how to approach a situation. Use the right tool for the job, and it's effortless. Use the wrong tool (or poorly execute) she is in for a slog of a fight until she can reset the situation and approach again. Throughout the run, I didn't know the proper tool for the job, executed poorly, and struggled to reset unfavorable situations from the early screens of stage 1 all the way to the end.
When I get swamped and it's a scramble situation, simply put: I panic. I really struggle to get those knives out. Even at my best back when I played Street Fighter and was going to tournaments, my technical execution was never good enough for me to rely on, and my stupid fingers definitely informed my decision of main. So too does it here.
I will get better with practice, no doubt, but I'm not focusing on her speedrun just yet. She's a fun character. I think she makes better use of Kim's kit than she does. I finally learned what the light, strong chain is for! Thank you, as always, to the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World Speedrunning Discord, for taking the time and having the patience to teach me from basically zero.
With that tedious and unnecessary screed out of the way, I guess it's time to start learning the Negascott run. My plan is that I'll post one video after having gotten some practice in, and then I'll post my final serious attempt when it's ready to show off. Thanks for reading all the way to the end, mom.
