They do say the old Double Rays sound better. I am new to all this but heck that Double Ray sounded deep and very mellow. Beautiful instrument. Wonderful playing.

Thank you, it is a Double Ray DeLuxe so has 3 sets of reeds rather than the usual 2 so it is a fuller sound

I particularly like the strathspey on this - it really seems to suit that instrument well.

Thanks for your comments Bill. This is a B/C as well and I'm playing the strathspey in A flat minor and the reel in B major. The basses are as follows, the upper 2 next to bellows are A [G#]flat minor on the draw and D# [E flat] major on the push, the 2 basses behind are B major on the push and F# major on the draw, the 2 lower ones nearest the bellows are E major on the draw and F# major push. The other 2 are C push and G pull, this is the normal layout for these melodeons, hope it helps, Ian

@squeezyjoan Thanks Sandy, I've always enjoyed your stuff as well, particularly Autumn Leaves, never expected that on a melodeon !

Yes, my brain thinks I'm playing the strathspey in A minor but the melodeon is 1/2 tone flatter on the B row so I'm playing it in A flat minor as that's the only keys that I have basses for on the old Double Ray. Because I'm mainly on the outside row it would be awkward on your box to get basses to go with it, all very difficult to explain, basically I've sniffed out tunes that I can play on Double Ray that I can get a decent bass accompaniment with as well, I'll be putting a few more up soon

Yes, it's a sook and blaw melodeon, 2 notes per button

Sorry for not replying sooner Bill but I've been away and now I'm back I can't find your reply to my reply about the basses, but mine and any other I've come across is what melnet calls the old hohner set up [and is now obsolete] not here it isn't!

lovely playing but it is not a melodeon. It is fully chromatic, melody side restricted only by the number of buttons, so capable of any key. A true melodeon is a diatonic instrument, the same in appearance with either one or two rows of keys not set in semitones, but often in G and C, D & G & hence restricted in range of material played but suoperior in rhythm- this is excellent BC playing though!

I have to disagree, this is a melodeon, it is diatonic, sook and blaw, and the basses are diatonic, but thanks for your comment.
