Shout out to Bago Wreckers, Check them out at www.bagoautodi...
I’m normally pretty clued in with cars, But unfortunately got stung with this one. Thankfully only lost $600 on the purchase, So let this be a lesson to everyone to do the research before buying a car and if you can DO NOT buy a car sight unseen. I’ve done it a few times before, But unfortunately this one bit me bad.
On the 24th September 2024 I sent My 2007 Mitsubishi 380 ES to the wreckers.
I purchased it for $600 in June 2023 with the intention of returning it to the road, The Seller said it had a “Blown Head Gasket” although it ran and drove it did so poorly and belched out copious amounts of white smoke.
The more I dag into the car’s mechanicals and history, The more issues I found including.
Cracked rocker arms.
sludge in the head and sump.
RTV silicone galore to stop oil leaks.
Several faulty wiring and sensors not reading even with new sensors installed.
Then the kicker is the seller was point blank refusing to issue a Receipt for the Purchase.
She also failed to mention a finance company had a financial interest in the Car, I showed her the PPSR report issued by the Australian government (Car facts / Car vertical / Car history check that tells you if the cars been stolen, Kilometres last known, accidents / written off etc).
When I mentioned it to her she denied any finance was owed on it.
It was a nice enough car that just needed a new 6G75 3.8 litre V6, But with the array of other issues and it sitting for 12+ months trying to get the legal and financial side of it sorted. I just lost interest in it.
Once it was up and running, I would of then had an uphill battle to get it “Blue slipped” (NSW Roadworthy & ID check, For light vehicles which have been out of registration for 3+ months, Within 3 months just requires a “Pink slip” which is a basic roadworthy required to renew registration on all light vehicles 5+ years old. No roadworthy Pink / Blue slip = No registration).
Then go into to my preferred insurer and get a “CTP Greenslip” which is compulsory third party insurance, Which the price depends on driver age, Location, Driving history etc. So as an example My self as a 30 something year old with a clean driving record and held a license for 15+ years may pay $330 for 12 months, Where My Nan who may have had her license for 50 years and has 2x speeding tickets in the past 3 years might pay $540 for the same car at the same address. The CTP is also listed to the cars registered owner ie Me, But covers all drivers who drive the car.
Then go into Service NSW / Roads and Maritime service to Register the car if they accept all the paperwork, Which is a 50/50 based on the current paperwork situation.
Once registered it’s a matter of putting either Third party, Third party fire and theft (covers other car fully in an accident, But not yours unless burnt out or stolen). Or Comprehensive insurance which covers both cars in an accident or if your car is stolen or burnt out, Then add on glass cover, Hire car cover, Agreed or market value, If you want to allow anyone drive it, No one under 25 or 30 years old to reduce the premiums, Adjust the excess to reduce the premium the works. Again it’s listed to the registered owner of the car but covers all drivers who drive the car, ie all over 30 for a $500 excess but if a under 30 drives it it’ll still be covered but they have to pay a higher excess ie $1500.
Then it’s a matter of just driving it if all goes well.
But given the troubles with the seller it’s best to just scrap it, Then buy something else that’s better.
