In the early 1960’s there was a competition for comebacks that started “You’re about as funny as…” They would end with something like “a fire in a match factory” or “a flood in a Fizzies factory”. I had just read a story about submarines in the book "They met Danger" about Medal of Honor recipients. When I pictured a submarine, and looked at the screen door in my house, I thought how useless a screen door would be as the main hatch of a submarine. So, originally the saying was "about as funny as a screen door on a submarine". The comeback also became "USELESS as a screen door on a submarine". Every joke or expression was first told by SOMEONE. That one bubbled up from my brain. Thanks for making a song out of it.

Saw Big Daddy Weave do this with Rich In concert and they had a neat cup stacking routine to go with it. Anyone have a video of that?

I love the man, but cannot agree with this doctrine. We are saved through Jesus's FINISHED work on the cross APART from the works of the law. The Apostle Paul shows us how to be saved in 1 Corinth 15:1-4. Any works we do IS A RESULT of having the holy spirit within us as believers. There is nothing we can ever do to earn our way into heaven. Peace, grace, and salvation be unto all who read

Well, what you are saying is just what Martin Luther believed! He came o an understanding of RIGHTEOUSNESS BY FAITH and was unable to understand the book of JAMES. Notice that James says, "Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble." Jas 2:17 - 19 So how did you marry the TWO (seemingly) OPPOSITE ideas?

I love how people marry good works with earning your way to salvation. No one can earn his way to salvation based on the fact that it's only through Jesus Christ that one can be saved. But James himself said, "even demons believe in God," making it obvious that simply acknowledging that Jesus died on the cross isn't enough. You believe in Jesus Christ, but you can be a homosexual throughout your whole life? You believe in Christ, and you can be a pathological liar? You believe in Jesus Christ, and you don't stop committing adultery? I find that most people who recoil at the thought of obeying Christ are those that have a sin in their life that they refuse to give up.

In the end, when we enter into THE FINISHED WORKS OF CHRIST, our WORKS become congruent with our FAITH / PROFESSION, because it is then the Jesus Himself WORKS in us "to WILL and to DO His good pleasure"! Philippians 2:13

Lol that is why I love this song and Rich Mullins. This is true. Faith without works is a false protestant doctrine

James said that faith without works is useless. :) Like a man who looks in the mirror and immediately forgets what he looks like. It's not enough to just SAY you believe in Jesus. You have to prove that you do. Your works will be the proof of what you say you believe. That's not the same as saying your works save you. Jesus' work WAS finished on the cross. But "the proof is in the pudding" so to speak.
