Thank you Ela! I'm a novelist looking to turn one of my books into a script. I've taken half a dozen classes and webinars, and read script writing books where they talk about plot, characters, story, etc. The one thing I've been searching for is exactly THIS!! ⬆ Since I've not been to film school, I've been struggling to fully understand formatting and how to use it. You provide and excellent concise message here.

Unbelievable! I took a screenwriting class in school that focused more on characters and dialogue. I feel like I grown some wings! Talk about the missing link. And it's done so effortlessly at the speed of light...you think you're not keeping up, but you are absorbing it all. Effortlessly.

Loved this, especially the "Text message" located in the action section. I might have had a whole semester at a film school before learning this, and here it is, in a nutshell. Thank you.

The crash course video was awesome and a welcomed refresher! I acquired a lot of this knowledge when I first tried writing a screenplay around 2010 after I bought a videocam. Hired two actresses and made a short video out of it, but never wrote another formatted as such since, as the modest success took me into another direction for a while. But lately, Ive been desiring to pick up where I left off. Thanks in advance for whats to come!

Thank you, Miss Ela Thier, for this Wonderful teaching Information, I believe and I want very much to tell my Life story and my Families Life Stories and all we had to endure and experience I would love to bring our Life to a screen Play, and to the Big Screen, the Big Screen, if I can get the opportunity, to tell my mother, and my Grandmothers, Brother, and my Own, all of our Life Storys, and Experiences, we all went through in our lives I feel and believe are life and experiences will Touch the world, I really do. I am a person with an intellectual disability, I'm not sure how good and effective my writing would and could be, but I just know that I have lots of life experience stories to tell, and talk about, that I want others to know about maybe they can relate to what we went through and maybe peoples just would be interested in wanting to know and Learn our Life stories and experiences. and I thank you, Miss Ela Thier i hope I am able to pick up this learning and write and bring my me and my family's story to life. again thank you, very much.

Is there a template that I can use for screen writing Ela? The format for Screen writing differs from that of a stage play.
@elathier

This video is the template...? ;) I also list a few screenwriting softwares in my blog post on screenplay format here: theindependentfilmschool.com/screenplay-format-how-to-format-a-screenplay/. (I do say in this article that I don't think it matters which one you use.) Good luck!

Can u explain about voice over (v.o) and off screen (o.s)?
@xthna
3 жыл бұрын
Off-screen (O.S.) is used when a character is speaking but isn't within the frame of the shot. This could be used if a character is in the scene but isn't supposed to be within the shot, such as characters yelling across the room. Voice over (V.O.) is used for narration. It's often audio recorded seperately for the sake of a scene, however does not have to be filmed at the same time. This is specified in the script to help keep the structure of the narrative in tact but to also know what to record, as you wouldn't record V.Os the same time as when you're filming a scene. You usually reserve a separate time for that. It's important to remember screenplays help organise your narrative/thoughs to help your crew know what to be filming, which is why day and night is specified to isolate them into separate filming schedules. V.O. is the same kind of thing. O.S. can be the same. It's usually picked up on during the filming of a scene, although in rare instances (depending on the director) it might want it to be recorded and edited seperately. It's usually more convenient to do the former, though.
