great video ! well structured and good for beginners to get an idea of screen writing. I like that he chose popular movies as examples so most have seen and can connect with them.

Enjoyed Dr. Miller's enthusiasm. But, when will teachers EVER stop asking open ended question that no one probably knows the answer to, then wait until they've looked at every face in the class, waiting for an answer?

Jackie Powell They want us to actually think for a moment, and not be spoonfed every tidbit. They hope that at least one person will have an 'Aha!' moment, and give their life as a professor meaning, again. lol. How suicide is not higher among instructors, idk?

Jackie Powell PS: It actually drives me nuts, too, whether I know the answer, or not. I think, "You're wasting time! Get on with it!!"

Thank you, much appreciated! Took a bunch of notes. Also, I believe Glengarry Glenross is the David Mehmet movie he’s talking about around 20 minutes or so. One of my favorites, I’m pretty sure Alec Baldwin won an Oscar for his role, which David Mehmet wrote in to make it feature length. Beast mode.

I don't think the inciting incident comes until mid-way when Brody's own son (Michael) has a brush w/ death when the shark goes into the pond and attacks a guy in a boat, and Michael goes into shock. The scene at the hospital when Brody tell the mayor, "you're gonna sign this [voucher to hire Quint], and we're gonna pay that guy what he wants." Then Brody pulls the curtain back open, and walks off very determined, and we hear the V.O. of Quint stating the terms of doing the job of killing the shark. Up until then, he'd been following what the Mayor says. Now he's getting stuff done. It's the pulling back of the curtain, and walking off with sheer determination is one of the emotionally dramatic parts of the movie.

Its about inciting incidents. It does not just have one, but it has many. For example the video he showed had two! One where the guy mentioned jaw width which suggests they are after a great big beast, and two when it became a personal issue. I

Steve Smith Screenwriting is more of a broad subject. It's not limited to screenplays, it's also used in regular plays and can be used for scripts in video games

Yeah, but I understand that must be threating to scriptwriters who live and die with their plot twists and dialog. Koyaanisqatsi shows that you don't need that to make a great movie.
