Probably a good musical explanation to why Scriabin is such a giant of a composer. But the point of this video isn't to describe why is this piece so good, because it's already one of Scriabin's most well known works. No, here, the point is to show four of the most crazy, powerful, inventive, original - and all the synonyms - interpretations of this piece. Fiorentino is for me the gold standard. He portraits the desire itself, which is in my opinion what this piece is about, so well. You can feel the passion, the flame of this incredible pianist. Then Neuhaus. His interpretation is indeed very special. Yes, there is wrong notes, but then what ? He gives to this piece such an ecstatic atmosphere, with a sparkling delicatness that the wrong notes doesn't matter at all. The tone is perfect, magical and extremely sensual. About Palvanov now, well this is probably the wildest, most untamed, gigantic performance of this Etude; an unstoppable flow of ecstasy, of desire. The power, the violence, the jealousy, the despair, everything is there. Sadly the speed and the force puts away some details, and the audio quality is disappointing. Lastly but certainly not least, there is Nikolayeva. What really shines in her interpretation for me, is the textures and the voicing. The feeling is quite different from other interepretations, whille her playing still portraits well the burning flame of desire. The tempo is also slower than others, but at the profit of power and grandiosity. I definitely reccomend listening to all of these gems of performances.
