That's long gone Varsity Stadium John Candy is running up in the Hefty Neil sketch: University of Toronto, then home of the Canadian University football championship games, first called the College Bowl, then changed to Vanier Cup. Too much fun in those days - such parties, old style, sneaking in wineskins and such.

I see the SCTV News preview (where Earl was teasing the type of stories one would have found in a typical edition of San Francisco station KGO-TV's "News Scene" as recounted by Mike Wallace in a 1974 "60 Minutes" profile on the SF TV news ratings war, and Floyd countered by saying that more "important" national and international news would be featured, and implored Earl to "get out of the news business and open up a porno shop") is missing (should have been seen around 8:13).

This was the first episode of SCTV I ever saw. I was quite young and it was over my head but something about it captivated me and I've been watching ever since.

Harold Ramis seemed like he was channeling "Weird" Al's style and cadence there, which was definitely unexpected. And possibly a total coincidence.

I remember watching this as a teenager when it first aired in the US back in the late 1970's, and cracking up when Hefty polished off the half side of beef. That was classic comedy.
