The most remarkable thing about this, watching it so many decades later, is the pacing and length of the bits. They weren't afraid of taking their time and letting a joke build.

Such a great show. I mean just look at the talent they had: Joe Flaherty, John Candy, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Martin Short, Catherine O'Hara, Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis. I mean wow, just an obscene abundance of talent. Each of them are legends in their own right. Great, great show.

Oh my god...Joe Flaherty playing Count Floyd is so brilliant. His constant failure and then reliance on howling and hiding behind his cape - just amazing. I watched this as pre-teen and it absolutely shaped everything about what I wanted to do with comedy. Looking back - its Eugene Levy that I am just astounded by. Every character he created was so strong - and SO many of them.

I watched an interview with a very young Tom Hanks on the set of Splash talking about whether or not he was afraid of the diving scenes, etc. He said no, but he was terrified of working with Candy and Levy. He said they were so good they could “blow me off the screen…with next to no effort”.

When I was a kid every local station had a Late Show hosted by a vampire, usually a member of the local stations broadcast staff. I love how they took that concept and made intrepid anchorman Floyd Robertson be "Count Floyd"...lol...he was always trying to sell those 3-d glasses, and over time the price kept going up...this time it was "26 bucks", almost like he wasn't sure if he could maybe get away with a higher price! Hilarious!

I think maybe the most brilliant thing the SCTV gang did was to often portray characters that in turn are playing other characters. For instance, Woody Tobias Jr. who plays "Bruno", Count Floyd is a character played by Floyd Robertson, etc.

@charles Middleton SCTV came on during the 80s and 90s and was based in Canada. It developed a cult following here in the U.S., and was set around a fictional tv network. Much like SNL, virtually all of the players went on to successful careers in both film and series tv. In fact, SCTV in most areas was shown after SNL, so popular that at one point, SCTV beat SNL in the ratings, as SCTV managed to keep stuff fresh, and the cast was genuinely funny, so no one person carried the show.
