I love that Bob and Doug MacKenzie only exist because CBC said that SCTV didn't have enough "Canadian content," so basically as an FU they created the most stereotypically Canadian characters they could think of.

That's not quite right. Canadian TV shows have 2 minutes less commercials than American shows (or did back then at least) & they were required to fill the extra 2 minutes with Canadian content.

@@jessfrankel5212 So ironic that, in addition 2 the "Star Wars" segment, Mel Brooks' movie "History Of The World (Part 1)" (1981) had a segment called "Jews In Space" (Brooks & Moranis r Jewish but that's besides the point). From my understanding, THAT ((the "Jews In Space" segment) was the precursor 4 "Spaceballs" & Moranis as "Dark Helmet" was purely coincidental. Nvrthlss; still fuckin' hilarious on all fronts.

I'd gather from the context before Empire was released, but well after everyone knew it was coming. So, probably 1980 or so. Maybe very early in '81. It's not terribly easy to identify specific segments on SCTV shows, at least in the very cursory search I did. Although I'd guess somewhere out there on the intarwebs is a page created by a guy who is obsessed with the show and has all the details, I haven't found it. And I'm not sure I want to. :-)

I remember these guys did an episode teaching viewers how to turn 6 beers into 36 beers. After drinking all the beer in the initial 6 pack, you place a live tiny baby mouse into the empties and feed them until they were too big to come out. Refill it with beer and take it back to the beer store where they give you a free 6 pack. They repeatedly stressed not to do all 6 at once.

Then again, the issue I have is wanting to be in my 20's through almost every era of the 19th century, turning 20 in the 2000s just didn't hit the same as I think it may have had I been born earlier.
