For those who are not aware...The Sammy Maudlin skit was patterned after the short lived Sammy Davis Jr. Show where Sammy was the host and for the duration of the show, his guest who were in awe of Sammy's talents and accomplishments, would relentlessly fawn over him and praise him (and visa versa).

I never saw that show, but growing up in Vegas we had a few local shows that were very similar... and I do remember one where Sammy Davis Jr. was on and it's just as you describe, endless fawning.

This is completely incorrect!!! The Sammy Davis show was a variety show like todays talent shows only with famous people. It was not a talk show like you portray. Sorry you are wrong.

Unbelievable! I was wondering which performers were going to do the impressions of these two, and then, Richardson appears... What the?!?... No way... Gielgud can't be ... WOW! And their performances, were, inevitably, PRICELESS! BRAVO!

Take off on johhny Carson, Merv Griffin, Sammy Davis Show.etc, they did tend to be scmaltzy at times. Good parody, especially, Bobby Bittman, Hollywood phoniness. One season or episode won an Emmy.

I've seen all of the SCTV skits they did on NBC and then Cinemax, but had missed a lot of these earlier ones with Ramis. Many thanks for sharing.

First, they were on CBC in Canada in the '70s and that was their best work since Canadians are less uptight than Americans and it shows in their comedy.

They must have been playing at citadel theatre,vin Edmonton, John Neville, theatre director. SCTV must have asked them to do a skit. Or they saw the show and asked to do skit while in Edmonton, just for a lark. Believe or not Shakespeare actors love comedy.

I remember when Sir Ralph and Sir John came to the Royal Alex. My parents were over and Dad actual got to meet Gielgud. I think it made his life!😂

Even today, after decades, they remain excellent actors! I do wish we could see more of Joe, Andrea, Dave, and Rick these days. Joe Flaherty especially - love the guy. (ps - God robbed us of John Candy about 50 years too soon. Dammit. )

Lorna Minelli was supremely talented. How could one stage contain both Bobby Bittman and Lorna Minelli, not to mention Sammy Maudlin? I expected a black hole with all that talent concentrated in one place. Trish Nutley was a flash in the pan, the flavor of the moment, went on to be nothing.

I think I was 17/18 yo when I discovered ''SCTV'' which a TV station from either Burlington or possibly Hamilton, Ontario, CA. I used to watch some naughty movies late at night. While turning the antenna here in Buffalo, NY I found it. I wish it was still on.

As funny as the triangle skit was, it reflected real life. On Match Game, all the players wanted Richard Dawson for the bonus round because he was so good. The producers didn't want the same guy selected every bonus round, so they randomized it with a wheel. Contestants were not happy when they didn't get Dawson.

There was a show in Argentina in the 90's called Cha Cha Cha. Funny as fuck, and now I know were they take the general idea, because this show is almost the same..Not plagiarism, but the same style for sure.

When does this show get funny? I am 4 or 5 episodes in and have yet to find any humor. I haven't laughed yet. I think I remember now why I never watched this show. MAD TV had me laughing within the first 10 minutes of the first episode!
