BCD Removal / Replacement underwater is a training skill requirement across several scuba training agencies (PADI, SSI, NAUI, etc.). It is mostly taught in a kneeling position with a Jacket BCD (a search on KZitem for BCD removal replacement will show this). This video presents an alternative method of teaching and performing the skill. In Midwater (vs. Kneeling) and with a more complex equipment set, i.e. Backplate/Wing BCD and Long-hose regulator system. While the skill will rarely be used except in extreme emergencies (eg entangled while alone), it also teaches the diver how to problem solve, handle task loading and how to manage and be comfortable with their equipment. Please leave a comment if you have a different way of removing/replacing your BCD system underwater. Share your story if you had to remove your BCD in real-life for a particular reason (eg entanglement, repair, etc.).

It might make sense to switch to the secondary reg before removing the BP/W just to help remind yourself that it's on a necklace around your neck - and so you need to deal with that first. The diver did a good job, very controlled.

Thank you for your comment. Yes, while not seen in the video since it would be too long, the necklaced reg was remove before switching back to the primary long hose reg. I had to use the long hose reg for the drill since it involves inspecting the bcd at arm’s length and the backup reg hose would be too short. Pls share with your friends. I’d be interested to know and learn if others are doing this skill differently. Thanks again.

@@godiveph1287 it's a fair point that the long hose makes it easier to inspect. I'll probably revise this skill soon.

Is the diver wearing a weight belt?

Hi, I didn’t use a weight belt in this video. However, if I’m wearing a thicker wetsuit in colder months or a drysuit, a weight belt is needed. Let me know if you have other questions, happy to help. Like and subscribe to help support my channel. Thank you for watching.
