I saw the Champ July 1986 at Belle Vue, even got to stroke him outside the track. Didn't wash my hand for a week 😢

I had the privilege many ears ago to stroke Ballyregan Bob's ears by courtesy of George Curtis and Bill Masters when introduced by those lovely gentlemen to that gorgeous and much loved hound. He also graciously accepted a bar of KitKat! There are some events you just don't forget.

My Dads friend owned one of Scurlogue Champs litter brothers. It didn't even grade in at A8 level. Was a freak of nature I suppose, great to watch..

*In the UK, i would advocate a National Greyhound Stadium is built, When White City, London closed it was a death blow to the sport. This new stadium could be financed by the bookmakers who have made millions out of the sport and given little back. In the 1960s, the introduction of national tv killed our sport, so did poor public facilities and the corrugated steel sheds and open-air stands and 4 months of cold winter weather. With the growth of football clubs, car ownership, holidays abroad, and the loss of our younger fans to other pursuits, greyhound racing died a death, Big Pity. Greyhound ownership and racing was a true family sport? Notes for breeders never breed from a greyhound whose racing weight was less than 73 lb.*

Ballymac Eske raced at 66lb as did Definite Opinion. Two brilliant stud dogs. Not sure why you wouldn't breed from a dog less than 72lb.
