Great video. I have the Folded Space insert for Stonemaier Games Scythe, which has its pros and cons. One pro is that it is less expensive. One con is that it is designed for the base box and the Rise of Feneris box, which means that it's not sized correctly for the Legendary Box. This is the only purchased insert that I own. I'd love to see a video showcase of your painted minis for this game. Those that are visible look really cool!

Just realized the only Stonemaier games I have are Scythe and my little Scythe. I was happy to get My little Scythe on sale for $24. Then Scythe appeared on sale for $42. My husband really didn't understand why I needed another Scythe and was petting the box when it came. Thanks for showing your broken token. I often wonder if it is worth the cost, I mean, I could get another game for the price. Guess, I'll just have to spend the time to model a storage solution to 3d print.

This video was very helpful. I haven’t gotten around to buying the expansions past Invaders from Afar but but that was only because my group fell apart for a while. I would like to get most of the Stonemaier games/expansions but especially all of the Scythe goodies so it was nice to see how this setup looks. I did pick up Wingspan this year which I have been thoroughly enjoying with my wife.

Scythe is my favorite Stonemaier game! (currently in gong through Charterstone) For Scythe, I have all expansions but have been dragging my feet with getting the legendary box. I'll probably be getting it soon though because I hate having multiple boxes for one game. The wooden insert looks amazing, and I played with someone else's copy that used it. I just can't justify spending that much on it. Currently, I am using bags for all my components (my general solution for all game storage). Thanks for the review!

@TheVistari

I'm really torn on after-market inserts. While I love them and own a few I almost feel like it's a problem that should be addressed by the publisher of the board game. I also see the other side of the coin that it can increase the prices of the initial purchase by quite a margin but for some games it almost feels like they are creating a problem so they can sell you the solution. I think Awaken Realms are towing the right balance with Nemesis where the game actually has decent inserts as part of the base box but have inserts on offer as a premium if you want them. Some board games just seem to be an empty box where you have to come up with your own creative ways of storing them. Scythe was the first game I played from Stonemaier and one of the first games I played where I really saw the benefit of owning an organiser. I'd love to see your DIY Gloomhaven organiser as that's one game I haven't got round to getting a Broken token for. I backed Frosthaven with a broken token included!

Love Scythe and almost every game of Stonemaier, you have to try the modular board, also it fits inside the legendary box, I own everything minus metal mechs, I opted to buy 4 nice games with the same money, regarding the organizer it rally speeds up the setup and also the storage, btw I glued every ship container with his faction box, speed a little more the setup, even without playing with ships

def can see how glueing the ship model to the faction would make things easier. Never even thought of that. 🤓

I had to skip around to avoid spoilers, but this was a great, thoughtful consideration. Though I tend to think that storage solutions are something that manufacturers like Stonemaier ought to be calculating into their production (and reviewers into their reviews, for that matter). I've not got Scythe yet because I've heard very different things about how well it plays solo, but the size and storeability of the game are both definitely things I need to think about.

As a board gaming toddler, I have not experienced a Stonemaier game. I have been itching to buy Charterstone, but have not pulled the trigger. I’m also waffling on a Xia insert. The cost is difficult to accept, especially since I have a vaulted game table. As a solo gamer 90% of the time, the table lessens the need for inserts. I can just leave the game setup and play games back to back until I’m ready for a different game.
@GameBrigade

If you have the capacity to not worry about set up tear down length, I think the only other reason I'd look at getting a custom insert is the ablity to store all expansions in a specific box. Wish I had a deditcated game table.

I think blinging out a game only makes sense if you play that game VERY often. That being said, I can see the storage solutions being useful when you want to fit in expansions. I recently got the European expansion for Stonemaier's Wingspan and there is just no way I can come up with a way to put them in one box.

I really like how Stonemaier let everyone choose their own level of bling with Scythe. (I personally don't care too much for the bling but own all gameplay stuff.) I hope one day they'll do that with Tapestry as the game looks interesting (especially with the new expansion) but seems so overproduced.

Is a Stonemaier game like Scythe a good option for someone new to the hobby? I've been debating Gloomhaven, Scythe, etc. I know they're vastly different, but I can only afford so much. Is it something that would be too difficult to pick up? Nice review on this solution too, I loved your Gloomhaven DIY solution. I was looking at a few solutions for Gloomhaven if I bought it and they're a bit pricey for something decent.

Hey Bryan, awesome video today! I really love these broken token storage solutions. I have one for LOTR Journeys in Middle Earth, Aeon's End, and for Arkham Horror LCG. I also have a gaming trunk branded wooden organizer for Gloomhaven that is exceptional. I'm pretty sure I would enjoy these games about half as much without them. My girlfriend and I am all about blinging out our games that we enjoy so much. You're very spot on about the pros and cons of them though for sure. I'll tell you though, neither of us have played a stonemaier game yet... I'm really looking at Tapestry though, it looks great! What would you suggest as our first Stonemaier game? Thanks for the content as always!

Never play Scythe or any other Stonemaier games. About inserts, woods solutions are quite expensive. I've bought a 3D printer in order to print inserts for all my games that needs it. It is time but you have really neat design and on the long run it is waaaaaay cheaper than buying Broken Token or e-raptor storage solutions.

How much BTI resell value do you see? Also the problem of BTI scythe is that you have to remember exactly how to put it back. Doesn't look ideal at all. Do show your GH insert! I played most of the Stonemaier games, and except for Viticulture:EE none of them were interesting enough to own; after V:EE everything went downhill - Tuscany > Wingspan > Tapestry > garbled mess. Scythe I never played but will get next year, not interested in any fenris but instead the base AI. Especially since it came before V:EE so it must be better.
