I picked up this Gentle Giant LTD, San Diego Comic Con Exclusive, Jawa (Offworld) from The Madalorian for a pretty good deal in a GG Collector's Guild sale. It was 10 or 20% off and I also used $15 in accumulated points.
Limited edition of 750 and I am not a fan of the Star Wars Disney puts out there, I honestly don't believe anyone involved has the slightest idea about what STAR WARS is. I don't believe their writer would be able to even tell the difference between Star Wars and Star Trek, they're that clueless. That's what I believe, and who cares? Quality Star Wars has already been done, long ago, it's besides the point. It doesn't matter. This particular character, Offworld Jawa is from The Mandalorian. What's cool about this Vintage Jumbo Figure from GG, besides the fact that it's SDCC exclusive, limited to 750 is IT IS the classic 70's Kenner Jawa, in different colors. The classic was browns with yellow eyes. Initially it included a vinyl cape, which is rare and extremely expensive. Kenner quickly realized this little action figure didn't offer much appeal, very little plastic, so they changed it to a cloth cape and that's the way it remained for every release after. Empire, Jedi, Power Of The Force.
So yeah. This sculpt is stamped 1977, same cool blaster as the classic, with greys instead of browns, red eyes instead of yellow and with an improved cloth cloak with a cool texture pattern to it. You can compare the wrap pattern on the face of this Jumbo Figure and the pattern on the classic Kenner figure and they identicle.
Very cool and another interesting thing about this particular figure is GG Quit using the Kenner logo on the Jumbo Figure cards at some point. 2015? I don't know, but many of them had the Kenner logo and then for ome reason they stopped and replaced it with "Gentle Giant LTD" on the Kenner font. I don't know why, but I have a few ideas. Hasbro were being dicks. THEY use the Kenner logo on their Retro, Vintage an some 6" Black Series figures. Whatever, but on this release GG used the Palitoy logo. In the 1980's Palitoy was the European distributor of Kenner Star Wars. I'm no expert, but I believe Kenner sent molds over, Palitoy made the figures and card backs (identical to what Kenner was doing) and distributed them over there. With this, it feels as if GG was like "F you then, Hasbro... if we can't use "Kenner" for whatever reason, we'll use "Palitoy". I like Hasbro/Kenner. I'm a fan of what they're putting out, but Hasbro ain't making awesome 12" Jumbo versions of the classics.
