Excelent tutorial. By the way this SDG are the same as Cannondale DownLow droppers. So exactly same process and spares. Already checked cause i've serviced both of them.

On my ride today, my post quit working. Would not stay up. I pulled the post and found the green cap on the end had unthreaded itself and I could see the inner shaft. Put it back together and it works. Trying to find out if this is a deeper problem or if it is worth rebuilding. The threads were not stripped on the green plastic part. Have you seen this happen before? I did not see a set screw to prevent it from twisting loose, bike is 2 years old, a lot of hard riding, already exploded the headset.

I have not heard of this issue. If the green actuator comes undone or loosens it can not engage the release button on the cylinder. I am wondering if it was just not screwed in tightly from the factory, or if the seatpost get raised or twisted during transport or maintenance.

Hi there great in detail video, what are your views on leaving the seat post in the bike to do this rebuild as there seems no reason to remove it. Unless I’m missing the obvious. Just a thought!
@WattOnWheels
2 жыл бұрын
Leaving the seatpost in the bike definitely can be an option if you are just doing the basic service. But, since you will be in "maintenance mode" it is a good time to check your cables and the actuator while you are already working.

Quick question - at the 9:10 mark, you were showing the black bushing at the bottom with the two teeth that align with the keys. You were holding it with the outdents for the two teeth on this black bushing facing up, but it looks like you quickly rotated it so those teeth pointed down before you installed it on the dropper. Should the two teeth on the black bushing point up or down (towards the saddle or away from the saddle)?
@WattOnWheels
2 жыл бұрын
The two tabs will face down. There is not enough room for the anti rotational slide bushings if the small tabs face upwards.

i have one of these posts and the saddle rocks a fair bit side to side,new keyways sort that out or need the whole bushing kit?
@WattOnWheels
2 жыл бұрын
The keyways will fix that. But since you already have the post taken apart and the full bushing kit isn't that much more, it would make sense to do a full service and replace them all. Either way you can't go wrong.

Have you tried swapping out the cartridge on this seatpost? I have the same post and it seems there is no way around buying the SDG locknut tool.
@WattOnWheels
2 жыл бұрын
I believe the tool comes with a cartridge if you get it from SDG. Without their tool, a person could make a socket work by modifying it but for the added effort, it's probably easier to get the tool. If there is a shop near you,maybe call and see if they have one already.

I think that grease you have used is way to thick and sticky, the dropper will not work good when temps drop, also some oils and grease can swell rubbers over time. I believe the correct grease would be suspension grease, does not need to be waterproof because the wiper seal is supposed to keep water out for a certain amount of time (service intervals). Just saying
@WattOnWheels
2 жыл бұрын
For the most part you are correct. I do have Buzzy's Grease that I use for internal seals. But since this was a sealed cartridge, the grease is mostly being used for the rotational key bushings and main wiper seal thicker "standard" grease works very well.

No, not a knocking noise. Just a slight amount of side to side rotational play in the seat. Is yours making a noise when knocking up and down or side to side?
