Been driving a couple months now with the ls6 max plus cam and loving it! Still haven't re-tuned. No drivability issues yet. Hunts idle in FL cold weather (40s outside) after warmed up and restart after going to store etc but smoothens back out. Car is 98 ws6 t56 4.10s, 243 heads, z06 ls6 cam, fast 78mm intake and all the bolt ons and tune. Made low 390s and 386wtq on dynojet. With max plus cam swap, I ported my 243s. I def broke 400whp mark! Again, haven't retuned. Still tuned with z06 ls6 top end. Again, max plus is a great mid level cam for a DD with a nice chop in idle!

Great job on this comparison from my home town peeps. I bought two of the 0053 cams . One is in a 6.0 LQ4 with the TBSS intake and 706 5.3 heads. I’m considering stepping up to the next level but it’s in a 72 one ton dually and I don’t want to lose drivability! I’m probably gonna try it but this one I buy in person with a trip back to my home town!

Any dyno #s for the hot truck tq cam? I was looking at the ht1 cam for my lq9 with 243 or 823 head build for my 04 Tahoe after already buying the ls6 max cam for my ls6 top end ws6. But went with the bigger max plus cam. So now I have the ls6 max cam laying around, should be interesting to see final outcome. I think I'm going to run the 823 heads for my truck (since will locwer comp ratio) and factory l92 intake mani vs the 243s thst I hand ported. Not looking for max effort. Just nice lil mild cam. Tho the ls6 max plus is deceiving. Feels much bigger than you'd expect. Hence the 88hp and 40tq gains on a 5.3 coming close to 450hp. Which Holdner's 5.3 factory cam shootout, the LS6 cam was just under 410hp with factory lm7 intake. Tbss might have help to make 420hp. The factory ls7 cam made 422hp/395tq and peaking at 6300 rpms just like these SDPC LS6 cams. And the Ls7 cam is like a "cheater" cam from the factory with 211/230 duration. I haven't gotten a chance to retune and dyno my 98 ws6 since I ported the 243s and swappes the factory Z06 LS6 cam with SDPC LS6 Power Max Plus cam. But my old #s were 392whp/386wtq on a dynojet. Porting my 243s alone would push me over 400whp. But I think factory LS6 cam vs. SDPC LS6 power max plus cam is good for 25whp. But the new 6L gen3 crate that GMPP has out comes with rect port heads and the 02-04 LS6 cam and is rated at 452hp flywheel. It is a remanned lq9 shortblock being its flattop piston's. So with the SDPC LS6 power max cam would be closer to 480hp flywheel. I'd be very happy if I hit 400whp in my truck. So that is why I'm very interested in what you made with truck cam.

Thanks for doing this video. I will be doing a similar build as tested here. Putting a fresh 5.3 LM7 in my 2000 GMC Yukon 5.3 4wd. Going to do the LS6 powermax cam with TBSS intake/92mm tb, Circle D 300mm converter, 1 3/4" LT headers into stock cat back. It's currently running a 2002 flex fuel OS and flex sensor, so it will be drinking 2.49 a gallon E85 instead of 4.00 premium. It's not a daily, I just use it to pull my fishing boat and occasional trips where I need more room.

Just wanted to update. So we did a stock baseline on my Yukon with E fans and E85 it made 239whp/269wtq on a Mustang dyno in 2nd gear. With the upgrades I mentioned above, power jumped to 321whp/313wtq. So we picked up 82whp/44wtq through the Circle D 2800 stall. The Circle D converter is still really tight. It only shows about 150rpm of slip up top, so likely not costing very much power up top and it actually acts like a 2500 stall in the Yukon. Drives similar to a 2500HD truck. It still has great low speed torque and much stronger pull through the midrange and up top. Power peaks at 5900rpm and holds flat to 6400rpm if you want to rev it out that far.

It's going to be pretty low, and there seems to be some variation but they seem to be below 2000rpm across the board. You can always test this out. • First, start the engine and activate the parking brake. • Next, put the transmission in drive. • Next, put your foot on the brake and floor the gas pedal. Don't do it for too long, maybe 3 seconds. • Keep an eye on the tachometer if you have one and note when the RPMs no longer go up and at what RPM that happens. That's your torque converter stall rating.

I have a LS2 crate engine with LS3 CNC ported heads that was purchased in 2008 from SDPC it has a single plane intake a Holley 850 hp carberator and 1 7/8 longtube headers it has a hydraulic roller cam that the SDPC tech recommend it has duration in the upper middle 230s and 600 lift in my 1984 Monte Carlo SS it's still in the car runs as good or better than when first installed 13 years ago I've had many performance engines through out my life none have been as reliable or have performed close to this engine this engine cruises good from idle to 3000rpm from 3000rpm to 7200rpm it is a absolute beast these tech guys at SDPC are in my opinion the absolute best these guys know what they are doing and they would be my #1 choice if needing LS performance parts or crate engines I've been more than happy with the engine they sold me for 13 years now they are highly recommend by me another thing l noticed with this engine is there doesn't seem to be a tapering or a dramatic falloff of power or struggling between 6000rpm to 7200rpm it pulls hard and revs fast to the 7200rpm rev limiter with absolutely no power falloff every old style small block I've ever had even with a solid cam seem to struggle or the power fell off sharply above 6000rpm this LS engine absolutely does not

Great video. Great display of data. Thank you. At stock the intake doesnt seem to make a huge different. The TBSS shows it colors with the cam upgrade. .

How would the ls6 power max lus cam work with a lsa blower? I know its not made for a blower. But i think it should work pretty good. As is. I really want to keep it with my upcoming lsa build.

That's a good cam and intake comparison! Sure like the middle cam for my 6.0 2500 2 wheel dr tow truck! I was wondering how much torque and horsepower it would gain and get that dod delete off I would have a real truck then!

1. Need a graph of, Ignition Timing. 2. Need graph of, Fuel Cruve. OR Factory Computer set up for this Engine/cam combination. These parts are paper weights, WITHOUT the fuel curve maps & ignition timing map.

Fuel curve and timing is going to be different over the range of vehicles and combinations the customers might be using. We used a Holley Dominator as it simplifies our setups on the engine dyno with the various harness needs. Base calibrations on a factory pcm just isn't in the best interest for us, or the customer since we don't perform tuning services. These aren't wild camshaft combos, any competent tuner should be able to get their base map for these ironed out with their eyes closed.

I just received my pro max plus in the mail. I can’t wait to put it in the motor. Thanks for a great in depth video. It’s not easy to go to performance shop and ask 1000 questions about the cams I was considering. This cam is exactly what I was looking for. I have a mild build going on for my 94 mustang. I’m putting the cam in a l33. Thanks again

Aeromotive has a dual and triple 450lph drop-in for the trucks. We carry a lot of their products but don't have those in stock at the moment. aeromotiveinc.com/product/phantom-series-2005-2017-gm-truck-direct-drop-in/

What size injectors you running?
@Sdpartscenter
4 жыл бұрын
These were 42lb injectors, more than what was necessary for the run, but 28lb/hr is the bare minimum starting with the powermax plus cam unless you're running E85 then you might consider something higher.

Good work guys. The old LM7/LR4 heads, the 706 and 862 castings have always been overlooked and regarded as junk because they don't make a giant number on the flow bench. Most folks don't understand head flow dynamics and just listen to their buddies or advertisements and choose the biggest number they can get their hands on. Velocity and overall port design is far more important than flow rate at .700" Those early heads, 706/862 design work pretty good on a 6.0, a co-worker used a set on a 6.0 on an old pickup with a 220 degree cam and LM7 intake and the torque spread is fantastic. Pulls really good in the low and middle, torque you can actually feel mashing us into the seat and it still doesn't feel choked off in upper rpm range
