Dave, I have listened to all three parts of the SDR School and I am in total awe of your subject knowledge and the organization of your presentation. Your delivery, voice, and inflections are that of a true presenter. Thank you for your time and effort! 73, Chuck K2RRV

Hi Dave. Thanks for your time and knowledge. Away from ham radio since 1964 when I built a Heathkit HW 101. Recently got my General and acquired my grandfathers old call, W8UPK, and a Yaesu FT 450. This SDR technology is a quantum leap. Believe you mentioned something about Cleveland OH so a note of appreciation, born and raised in Cleveland, grandfather lived east in Thompson. Take care.

Thanks David for this concise tutorial. I was a dyslexic kid that couldn't remember Morse code. I just ordered a kit to try out. Very cool stuff, similar to high end audio- digital room correction, etc. Can't wait to try it out...

What an excellent series, dare I say course? I feel like this has helped me immerse myself in the SDR technology and provided me with a “101 Survey style course” to help me move forward.

I appreciate this series you've put together. Thank you for sharing. I just ordered my first SDR, an RSPdx. I intend to use it as a bench tool for my amateur work with electronics as much as using it for a radio.

Dave: Very informative. I always like your videos and learn a lot. Thank you very much for taking the time. Even though I no longer live in Grafton and can stop by to see your "shack", I like being able to watch your videos here. Thanks.

Thanks for putting this series together! Im new to SDR so its a good round up of all the elements. Im currently using a rtl sdr dongle, worth about $30, with airspy. Seems like the perfect beginners combination!

Thank you, that was 3 of the best videos on SDR. Although you didn't cover it, I'm leaning towards a Hackrf as a starter/experimenter kit.

Good stuff Dave, thanks for spending some quality time on explaining all this. I'm very glad you included Elad's FDM-DUO SDR radio in your analysis. I bought one about three years ago and just in the last few months finally decided to get serious with learning everything. I finally realized that there are so many features with SDR, I would tend to go back to my conventional radio out of default. So, a few weeks ago I sold my Yaesu FT-950, and that committed me fully. What I like about the FDM-DUO is that it runs stand alone, and small, and you can "grab and go". The term "QRP" may scare hams off, but that's because they're not thinking of it in the right way, in my opinion. Elad offers it's peripheral 120 Watt amplifier which "completes" the radio, and is VERY tightly coupled to the DUO radio, although it's physically separate. When you think about it, that's the ONLY way to do it right. You can grab and go with the QRP rig for travel, which is small, and you can leave the small amp at home (or take it too). Buying an SDR rig that's all one unit doesn't give you that option. So I'd like to think of it as a full system instead. I sound like I have stock in Elad, but I'm just a big fan, it's a GREAT solution, and the FDM-SW2 is simply awesome software. After months of using it I still amazed at new things I'm learning, and the learning journey is the MOST fun for me. Thanks again for doing all this. Elad's FDM-DUO is quite the dandy little secret in major value. 73, Patrick, KM5L

Dave, awesome videos but you're killin' me. I have an Icom R8500 and AOR 5000 that are begging me not to let them go. I did look at your page and went to the SDR list. Getting my choices narrowed down and it looks like there's really only a few contenders. I really like the Expert SDR2 GUI but would that software work with an ELAD SDR or my radios or have you found that most software is proprietary? thanks.

Suppose you have 4 directional antenna and a non directional antenna north, east, South, west, everything else... Is there an easy way to filter out only the channels you want from each of the antennas and combine them back into a single cable before sending them to the sdr or would it just be cheeper and easier to buy 5 sdrs?

I sold my Elad and bought the SDRplay Duo. My Elad was strange in that it only worked with a shorted antenna otherwise it just overloaded. Was it faulty. ?

Glad to see your interest in SDRs! Something's wrong. In my case, cockpit error sometimes crops up, so that's always a possibility. Sounds really funky though. Save W8KFJ

Not exactly a school of SDR this is a fifth grade expert just making even more difficult to understand for beginners trying to get information to start using this fantastic option to get in to DX-ING on the computer,no like from me.
