Nice review. Thanks. It's also great to finally see someone who's as tall as I am, reviewing a tent. Most hiking tents are far too small for anyone who's 6'2" and I'd have no chance of sitting upright in most of them.

I just spent a small fortune on one of these - along with the over priced ground sheet which needs to be bought separately. It is incredibly light and compact, but I took it out for one night to test, no rain or strong wind, but the thing was soaking inside from moisture and condensation before I even got to sleep. I'm actually pretty gutted about it. Probably going to sell it look at a double skin tent, probably the big angus UL. In my opinion sacrificing a bit of weight for something that actually works is better than the bragging rights of a few grams.

+adam kaddour Things like this are usually just gimmicks designed to sucker folks who don't have a lot of outdoors experience. This one for example is basically an over-hyped and over-priced bivy bag. If you want something to actually backpack or camp in grab a hammock set-up, bivy system, or backpacking tent.

@Brisdad53 screens don't stop condensation from happening. Even mesh screens slow down air movement drastically - which is all that's needed for the condensation to build up inside.

It's Big Agnes, not Angus. The first is a sheep; the 2nd's a cow! Getting back on topic, this tent buying business is all about personal preference. If you backpack with trekker poles, you've got those tents available. If not, get a free-standing. If you're gonna do something like a thru-hike where you'll be backpacking for hundreds, maybe thousands, of miles, get something very light, 2-3 lbs or less, because you want to be comfortable out there, and you'll have to make similar choices about the weight of your sleeping bag and your backpack itself. Those are the three heaviest items you'll be carrying, so minimize their collective weight, under 10 lbs.

Very interesting watching the gear reviews for stuff for the US market. Here in the UK you rarely see tents like this in gear shops. It rains a lot in the upland areas of the UK and we have more of a tradition of double skin tents. Nice to see that you do have some British gear too. Montane are doing some fantastic kit currently.

MSRP of $499 (apparently $290 on sale) for a 30.21 ounce 2 person tent (as sold). The Eureka! Solitaire is $80 for 42 ounce 1 person tent (as sold). The Duo, as admitted by the poster, is probably tight for two people whereas the Eureka could hold 2 people in a pinch without gear. The Duo has 23 Sq. Ft. of floor space, the Eureka 21.33. For more than $200, I can save 10 ounces somewhere else and bite the bullet on 1.67 Sq. ft.

Is it just me or does the Sierra Designs Flashlight 2 seem bigger, cheaper and better quality? I'm looking for a new tent and I'm considering one of those. I saw this on the side panel of videos and watched this video scratching my head. The Duo Shelter looks more like a single person tent. Thank you for the video; it was very detailed, to the point and helped me make a decision on this tent.

martian59 Actually I just got my Sierra Designs Flashlight 2 in the mail two weeks ago and it's nice! I really need that extra head room and I'm a bit big of a person so extra space for me. It's also nice that if I want to bring a friend or my dog I'll have room to spare for them. I should make a video and post a review once I try it on my vacation. I'm excited and I feel like it's the right one for me. Also since it's a two door tent I can choose which side I want to get in and out of. Plenty of room at my feet too. It's well thought out. This Duo shelter feels like a copy compared to the Sierra Designs Flashlight.

After 20+ years and many hundreds of nights camping I finally replaced my 6lb Moss tent which I paid $350 for in 1990, with a new UL tent - same size, but less than half the weight (1.8 lbs). It was the exact same price not adjusting for inflation - 350$ (although it's not made in Camden Maine either). I've already lived in it for a few months on three extensive bike trips, and the weight savings were worth every penny.

Love all the lightweight gear out there....but yes, Mountaineering has become very expensive. Poles cost around $150 - Poles!!!! 2 sticks! Sleeping pads are ridiculously prices ($250!!!!) and it is a shame, back backs, technical shoes, even under garment are pricey as hell. I am really disappointed in these companies, Hiking, trekking, scrambling, climbing has become a sport for the rich. To feel safe and comfortable on a high route will now cost you thousands of dollars If I tally up the cost of my climbing gear it is around 5k (at least). It kills me when I see people with super expensive gear stop at the first lake when we push for another 10 miles cross country. They have gear that put us to shame...and that is the point, outdoor companies realize that the common people will spend that kind of $$$...essentially pricing us out. It is a clear sign of the times: cater to the masses...not the actual people who test your gear to the limit. What a fucked up world.
