It is so refreshing to watch sheepshead fishing videos without ads every couple of minutes,without background music, and without profanity. And you are doing it on a 16 foot skiff that doesn't cost an arm and a leg to buy, trailer, and operate. Heck, I don't even see any electronics mounted on it! I am looking forward to using all of your tips in the wrightsville beach area. Thanks, and keep those sheep videos coming!

Don’t need a fancy set up, just good bait and solid tackle. Thanks for the comment sir…

There is a three sea urchin limit in Florida. No limit here in NC. Hope this helps avoid any trouble. Thanks for watching.

When they start hitting the urchins are you setting hook right away? Or when they have more of a steady pull? We were getting hits but couldn't seem to get timing right. They would spit them out, or pull urchins off

That’s the tricky part, I like to let them have it until they are chewing HARD. Set the hook as hard as you can. Using the two hook rig helps because you have twice the chance that the bait is deep in their mouth and you can let them feed longer. Good Luck!

I know this is an older video but hope you see my question! I fish the same areas as you and started trying sea urchins. A lot easier to find and essentially free, as opposed to fiddlers. Anyway, what kind of hook are you using for sheeps/black drum? I like using circles with live bait but it's sometimes a pain with the bigger ones to get the hook in. Any help is appreciated. (Btw the only sheep I caught today was a biggun on an urchin thanks to your video)

Glad to hear you got a nice one. As for hooks I like 2/0 to 5/0 hooks, my son uses circle hooks and does really good. Bust your urchins as I do in the videos and put the hook right through the center of the bottom (the mouth) and out the top. Keep as much of the urchin on the hook as you can but the center is what’s important. Good luck!

Excellent video. Perhaps a solid bait acquisition video? Urchin, sand fleas, crabs. Very informative and entertaining.

You diving for your urchins? I never even thought of that. There's a ton of them all over the jetty at radio island. I think next time I dive it, I'll take a bag.

How do you get the urchins? Can you make a video of how you get them?
@offkilterfishing

You can scoop them up with a net at low tide off the pilings. Wear gloves if you are going to reach into the water because the oysters bite.

Can you find these urchins in dock piling, or does the pilings need to be in deep water like near Bridges.
@offkilterfishing

It depends, if the dock is near the inlet with fresh blue ocean water then yes they are probably there. Look at low tide and you can usually see them.

Thanks, I am trying to catch my first sheepshead while targeting them. Can you give any insight on how the bite feels, how long do they stay on the hook crushing the food before you need to set the hook? Also could you also do a video on collecting bait for them?

You think that would work in the NY/NJ area? Not even sure if our bait shops have them. But then I’m a complete rookie to sheepshead fishing. They are making a comeback in my area. Nice vid

If you can find them, use them. If you can't, use local crabs that you can gather on your own. Best of luck.
