In late April 2019, PangeaSeed Foundation, in collaboration with Proyecto Panorama, returned to the Caribbean island of Cozumel, Mexico to host a project our international public art program, Sea Walls: Artist for Oceans.
Sea Walls Cozumel 2019 featured the works of 20+ international and regional artists, all coming together to paint for a purpose and give our precious oceans a voice via art and activism (ARTivism).
In addition to the mural painting, we hosted public film screenings, panel discussions, and environmental and cultural excursions. At PangeaSeed Foundation, we believe a drop of paint can create an ocean of change and that through global collaboration; we can help save our seas.
The difference between Sea Walls and other public art programs is that it is the first movement of its kind helping to save our seas via public art and activism.
There is a greater purpose to the project and we are sending a very specific message about the state of our oceans by educating communities and inspiring individualsto become better ocean stewards.
PangeaSeed Foundation is a non-profit organization and Sea Walls Cozumel has been made possible through the generous support of our incredible donors and sponsors who believe in the merit of this valuable project.
Since 2014, on a volunteer basis, we’ve organized and curated our Sea Walls: Artists for Oceans program in 16 countries, resulting in 400 public murals by over 300 artists in coastal communities around the world. We’ve built a world-class platform for artists to bring the oceans to the streets of communities large and small.
Public art and activism can educate and inspire the global community to help save our seas. Regardless of your location - large metropolitan city or small seaside village - the ocean supplies us with the breath we take. Life on planet Earth cannot exist without healthy oceans. Dwindling global fish stocks, rising sea levels, and widespread pollution are issues that impact everyone, regardless of location. As global citizens, we are responsible for the health of the oceans and the wildlife that calls it home.
PangeaSeed Foundation would like to thank the artists, volunteers, partners, and sponsors for their participation and support in Sea Walls: Artists for Oceans’ Cozumel edition.
