To prevent what you just said just use a check valve. That's what I did, works great!

have the same Seaflo bilge pump. a check valve solved the water return to the hull like Javier notes. i also put the pump in a stainless mesh strainer box. had problems with crud fouling the little impeller and float. both problems solved. this unit pumps closer to the bottom than others.

As a former seller for more than 6 years, I can tell you these pumps are not worth the money. The pump will keep running and and off. What happens is the water in the hose backs up and forces the pump back on, then the pump runs and shuts off water runs back into the bilge. It will do that until your battery is dead, it will keep running I have had to warranty (refund) over 200 of these pumps for that exact reason. In a best case situation if you get 6-8 months use be happy. Seaflo claims to offer a 1 year warranty, but they do not honor their warranty to their dist. I lost thousands of dollars selling their complete line of pumps and will never sell them again
