Super 8 found footage shot by a worker on the coal trains at Seaham colliery in County Durham in the late 1970s. Although amateurishly shot, the filmmaker had extraordinary access to the working environment - driving trains and emptying coal wagons down into the stockpile in Seaham Harbour for loading onto ships. His shooting positions, particularly in the cab of a locomotive as it pulls the wagons along, provides a unique glimpse into the work and industrial conditions that have now completely disappeared from the area. Helliwell has reorganised and edited all the footage and created an electronic score to match the originally silent footage.
