I made a previous video on this. Other than a few "pockets" such as Seal Beach and the areas (Colton and Riverside) which were serviced by Southern Sierras Power Company, later Calectric; petty much the majority of the Greater Los-Angeles area of Southern California ran on 50 hz AC prior to WW-2. LADWP changed over in the 1930's in order to accept 60hz AC power from Hoover Dam but SCE didn't begin conversion until 1945. The last 50 hz distribution was switched over on October 27, 1948. A similar situation exists in Japan as half the country is 60 hz and the other half is 50hz. Some cities near or straddling the border like Itoigawa in the Niigata Prefecture, have different frequencies depending which part of town you're in.

yuandrew Great information! I would have never known about the anomaly. I was fascinated with the unique designs of the distribution poles in Southern California when I visited.
