SEAmagine is pleased that one of its Aurora submersibles was involved in a scientific discovery earlier this year. Recently published in Cybium, an International Journal of Ichtyology, the scientific paper titled “First record of prickly shark Echinorhinus cookei (Pietschmann, 1928) (Chondrichthyes: Echinorhinidae) in French Polynesia (Eastern Tropical Pacific)” written by Eric Clua, and 3 other authors, explains how a SEAmagine submersible’s dive allowed the observation of a mature male prickly shark at 500 m depth on the outer slope of the barrier reef off the island of Moorea. This is the first time ever that a sighting of this shark species in French Polynesia was done. This discovery made while diving from for a private yacht demonstrates the value gained from any deep submersible dive, whether they are performed by the general public or by scientists.
