LOVE love love this, we are obsessed with whales. So cool to see them right off the coast like that. We used to live up on the San Juan Islands in Washington and would see the orcas almost on a daily basis. Such majestic creatures they all are! Our new goal is to scuba dive with whales some day.

Whale watching is fun, I was supposed to go with the kids this past summer. We will try again this coming summer. I love that the the scientist are working with the ships to keep these amazing creatures safe.

deFINintely do it if you have the chance. I was lucky to have Morgan the UCSB biologist with me. She was part of my news story about the technology and the whales dying. Mostly it's actually the whale watching captains that do most of the spotting and logging of the whales and cargo ships. Where were you going to do yours? Dana Point, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara?

Someone has a badass camera behind you at 0:50! Those dolphins are so cute jumping near the side of the boat. I was lucky enough to see some dolphins like this last month in Maldives! I'm yet to see a whale though. One day! Seeing their tails come out of the water is just amazing. You really got lucky with this viewing!

You lucky duck; we want to go whale watching so much! Happy to hear they are taking measures to protect whales being hit by ships.

I didn't know UCSB was doing work to help protect them!

They've been working on it for a couple of years. I didn't know it was such a problem. 80 whales a year along California is horrifying. Who knows how many more around the world in less controlled places.

Guess since being born and raised there, I didn't appreciative seeing them often . Plus surfing with the dolphins & a few sharks . I moved as it was really expensive to stay. I visit when I can. Also charter a boat to go fishing with a crew & others at the same harbor it's awesome! Thank you for your video!

This is great! Some great whale shots, cute dolphins as well. So jealous that these things are still going on now. Big camera behind you in the beginning.

The big camera for the big news. It's fun when work and pleasure can mix. What do you do to have fun and stay safe? We kept our masks on and our distance on the boat. It was great to get out on the ocean!

Which whales did you see in Canada. I've heard some orcas come as far south as Los Angeles from time to time. It would be cool to see them out in the ocean.

@@SheahenExplorations I was in BC so I reckon they were humpbacks. It was a long time ago now but certainly a memorable experience. All the best for 2021!

We would love to go whale watching! It must have been an experience. So great with the UCSB technology system. The scene at 4:04 is amazing.

There were sooooooo many dolphins. The estimate was 400 that we saw on the trip. You saw how we had a hard time keeping them all in frame. I was lucky to have such a great expert in Morgan to explain what we were seeing on the Whale Watching. Totally awesome if you can find a marine biologist to go with you.

We have been to Santa Barbara a long time ago, yet we weren't as lucky as you! Was it scary to have them so close to the boat? I've always wondered!

I wish we could have gotten closer to the whales. It was a lot of fun seeing the dolphins play with the boat and its waves.

Omg I would love to go whale watching one day. When’s the best time of the year to go whale watching there? How long were you out on the boat? I loved the info about the different whales.

It was a lot of fun. Having a marine biologist with you definitely helps. You can see common dolphins all year round. But for the bigger whales, March-April and Sept-Nov are the best times to catch them migrating through. It was a 5 hour trip 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.. Which did you like best, dolphins, humpbacks or blue whales?
