On your bean bed (elephant garlic) - is that a coir/clay ball "compost" or just the residue from hydroponics? Have a great week!

Yes police contacted our allotment to see if we wanted it, they just cut the plants off and we had to go collect the pots and mix. We got about 5 tonne of it, and the plants never grew out of the little bag things so the compost had no roots in it and hardly used. At least it should be a weed 🤪🤪 free bed with the membrane underneath and not being multipurpose compost 👍👍👍

@@gballotmentvlogs6400 Cool! I use the stuff for my hydroponic tomatoes but when I "repurpose" it, I riddle it - clay balls to the paths, coir to the beds. It will be interesting to see how you get on and if I have been wasting my time LOL

I’m doing an experiment with coco hour this year, doing half tomatoes and chilli plants in a coco coir mix and the other in multipurpose compost, see which produces the best results. Last year I found the plants in coco coir to be a lot lighter green in shade, and not much fruit. I’m convinced there’s not enough nutrients in the coco coir compared to multipurpose compost. Guess we will both find out how we do 😁😁😁

@@gballotmentvlogs6400 Coco coir has no nutrients at all: zilch, zip, nada, nothing, it is just a base to hold roots - it needs all of its nutrients adding. (Hence why it is used in hydroponics - you add what you want to the water). I only add it to my beds as it gradually breaks down over the years and lightens the soil a fair bit.
