It is fantastic to see a Great washing and clean of the cooker, It is a standard practice of mine on all my smokers. Cheap Insurance and I care about the people we feed. I Think This is well worth the time and Long life of the cooker. I choose to Bore small holes on the barrel hinges for easy Oiling. I oil inside my firebox all the time. Great Video and Great Looking cooker.

Agreed. Frankly, I don't spend this much money on a pit all the time and I wasn't expecting all that welding slag or plasma dross or whatever it is... That said, once I saw it, I had to get it out. And it didn't take that long.. maybe an hour or so, of scraping and grinding, but yeah, I agree, it would have been better if it were cleaned out before delivery. On the other hand, when you buy anything of quality, a nice boat, a car/truck, an rv, there are always minor defects in need of correction and I chalked it up to that...

Awesome Smoker! I’ve spent a lot of time researching high-quality craft smokers, and I believe this one is the absolute best as far as backyard smokers go. I really enjoy your videos! I’m making a smoker and I’m curious about a couple of measurements on this one: 1. How wide is the cookdoor opening? It looks like 40 inches? 2. How wide is the trim piece that goes around the edge of the cook door? is it 1 1/2 inch wide? 3. What is the frame of the cooking grates made of? It looks like half inch solid square bar. 4. How wide is the cowboy door opening? 5. How tall is the cowboy door opening if you measure along the curve of the firebox instead of a straight line? 6. How far apart is the upper cooking grate from the lower cooking great? 7. What’s the distance from the top of the cook chamber to the top of the firebox? 8. How tall is the hole that lets smoke in from the firebox? It looks like it’s half moon shaped with a straight line across the top of the hole maybe 8 or 10 inches tall in the center? Thanks for showing us your awesome smoker!

Thanks! Tallow (from Brisket trimmings) on the inside, Raw Linseed Oil on the Outside... I used Sunnyside Corporation 873G1 Pure Raw Linseed Oil, Gallon.. from Amazon: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BZYYJC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1. Tallow or any other animal or vegetable oil will have a tendency to get sticky and attract dust and dirt. Linseed oil (aka, Flax Seed Oil), is a drying oil that with heat and time will eventually dry to a hard protective surface. Careful though with Boiled Linseed Oil, which includes solvents to speed the drying process.. not bad for the outside, but I'm a bit cautious and went with pure Linseed oil to avoid any cross contamination.. Many don't find this an issue. Good luck!

They season it before it goes out to make sure it works like it's supposed to. You guys cry over a lil but of seasoning scale
@jbmia.
2 жыл бұрын
Incorrect sir. I created the video and can assure you that the interior of the pit did not come seasoned and that it was not seasoning scale. I'm not a metallurgist or a welder, but the scale was definitely metallic and appeared to be a by product of manufacturing.. plasma cutting or welding.. Not crying as I really didn't have an issue spending a couple hours cleaning out and seasoning the pit. Just pointing out the facts. It's of course up to viewers and potential buyers to conclude if this extra cleaning would have been an issue for them. The PIT is an excellent pit and JD and team are doing a great job under the pressure of heavy order volume. Like any manufacturer, there are bound to be hiccups here and there.. especially with a new product.

Is there a little cavern behind the smoke stack pipe in the smoke collector? That's kind of what it looks in the video. Also, what's the size of the collector opening from the main chamber?
@jbmia9745
3 жыл бұрын
On the 'cavern', I suppose you could say there is.. the stack comes down into the collector, but most of it is cut away, only leaving a small slice. This remaining piece of the stack projects down into the collector, leaving a small space behind it. The collector is pretty much the entire width of the smoker.

Interesting to see how quickly rust appeared on the bare metal. However, it is bare metal, so maybe I shouldn't have been surprised. Also, no need to put -'s on a word to make it plural. That makes it possessive. It's just "videos." Like "cats and dogs" or "cars" or "socks," etc.
