PLEASE STOP TRYING TO CONNECT HOMELESSNESS TO IMMIGRATION. PLEASE STOP TRYING TO CREATE DIVISION BLAMING HOMELESSNESS ON A POLITICAL PARTY. Homelessness is OUR problem! WE ALL are affected in some way by the homeless crisis. It's going to take ALL OF US TO FIX IT! The leading cause of homelessness is the lack of affordable housing. Families are not fleeing war atrocities in South America crossing the border to rent luxury condos driving up housing costs. Rents are skyrocketing because we have an affordable housing crisis. The housing crisis was created by greed and racist zoning laws preventing the growth of affordable housing. STOP THE HATRED! A young kid walked into a Walmart and started shooting to kill people because he was filled with hatred towards immigrants! STOP THE HATRED!

Here is what I don’t understand. I live in the Bay Area, and 99% of the homeless people are white or black. I can’t remember seeing a Latino or Asian homeless person, but I hedged and said 99 instead of 100%. If the illegals come here with no money, and don’t even speak the language, how can we say this is an affordable housing problem when they have no money? Where are they living? How are they doing this? What is the rent magic Latinos and Asian immigrants have that white and blacks born here don’t have?

WTF? Again - immigrants are NOT renting luxury condos driving up housing costs. They are living on migrant farms, housing three to four families in small apartments, living in garages. The jobs immigrants are doing like picking lettuce are jobs AMERICANS WILL NOT DO!! Immigrants are not taking American jobs, COMPUTERS ARE!

This touches me too, because my daughter and I are homeless, staying in motels, because we lost our two bedroom apartment four years ago. It's so expensive to live here in this city, San Diego, that we couldn't find anything affordable. So we have roughed it, and struggled, so much hardship in all this time, there have been times we've had to stay outside, and panhandle for the money to get another motel room. We've finally found a residential motel, where everybody just stays, and stays, and stays, and not many people leave, unless they're only here as overnight tourists. The management here is nice, and she goes by what we can afford to pay, and so far, we've been here about three months. We plan to stay here until we can move out to a real home. There are people here that haven't left for three years, and another couple that have been here for over five years, and never left!!

In Seattle, there are few floral shops that hire non-professional, untrained folks. You can get seasonal work (holidays) or unpaid internships. Most markets (Safeway, FM, etc) don't offer enough hours to live on. Being on disability limits what you can make (about $75-150/mo) before losing benefits. Seattle studio rents start $1000k/mo. Subsidized housing in 3 counties has 10+ years wait list. No pets. I left Seattle for the mountains. Easier to survive homelessness in small communities with resource centers and food banks not overrun.

Huge lump in my throat watching this. I too am homeless, living in my car five years now-shunned by family. Disabled by brain injury and PTSD, feeling ashamed at not being able to work, to pull out of it. The line between surrender and suicidal is terribly thin. The stigma is real. And strangely, what makes it so real isn’t the harassment by cops, or the judgement of others, or the poverty, or even the chokehold of wasted potential-it is the kindness of those who choose to see me, who sneak $20 I haven’t asked for into my palm, who leave food for my cat on my car, who give me laundry vouchers, and remember my name. It is not my circumstances, nor the cruelty of my family, but the kindness of random strangers that makes me weep. Thank you for this video.

Having lost a 16 year old child myself, i know first hand the trauma and depression it causes. And without a support system it would be easy to give up and end up here. My heart breaks for her.

I think we should aproach and greet homeless people to make them feel better. Its awful that a people avoid this friendly lady as if she was a lepper.
