I know I'm really late, but Wright himself confirmed that he was in fact staring at the Habs table during a Seattle radio broadcast. Then he later liked a fan tweet that said Slaf is the worst 1st overall pick since Yakupov. But what really threw me off is the reason why he even fell to 4th. Its not because of the attitude, its because he didn't play overseas.

Problem is that he followed an exceptional 15 years old season with a disappointing 17 years one. Stagnation, or a slowdown in progression isn't what you want to see in a prospect. Those are important, formative years. His last season projects more as a 2C than a franchise player, and that's a real concern. He was easy to play against in the playoffs. That's an even bigger concern to some. And yet he's cocky and entitled. There are ways to say things. Saying that you worked hard to be number one and that you hope to be sounds a lot less entitled than "I deserve to be #1." Especially coming out of a disappointing year.

I am about to say one thing about Wright that imo will hold back his production so just maybe he reads this and adheres to my advice. Obviously nobody has seen him on the ice versus NHL players but what i have noticed is that he does a lot of "tailing off"and by that i mean he takes a shot and tails off he makes a pass and tails away from the net he NEEDS to continue on to the net looking for rebounds instead of fading away from the net.I actually see a LOT of players do this and all you need to know is that Phil Esposito and Tim Kerr scored a ton of goals NOT with skating prowess all they did was stand around the net.IMO Wright is a solid player he can definitely handle net traffic and SHOULD be in the crease area a lot more looking for garbage or maybe even a loose puck to feed a nice pass off or to simply keep the shots coming and maybe something goes in or banks in off a defender you just never know.

I think Montreal and New Jersey passed on him because he isn’t want they were looking for, the habs already have Suzuki at centre and they don’t really need another young stud centermen, so they went with the 6’4 left shot left winger instead, and New Jersey is in the same boat with Hughes and hischier down the middle so they got a winger instead. I am a littler confused as to why Arizona went with Cooley instead of wright but it probably is a blessing for wright in the long run as he will most likely perform better in Seattle then Arizona and he’ll be the face of the franchise for a long time. But my hot take is that probably half the league would have drafted wright first overall if they won the draft lotto as he is what they need but unfortunately in this years draft the top 2 teams had no use for him.

NJ flew both Wright and Slafkovsky to NJ after the combines and not Nemec, because they were looking at grabbing one of the two. Clearly Wright managed to turn off a lot of teams in his interviews. The #1OA spot was his to lose. To me, he sounded more entitled than confident. He had a disappointing year, yet still act cocky af. That's not a good look. I can't even imagine how bad the interviews had to be. He's the kinda guy who was probably like "really guys? Why are you interviewing me, there's no chance I slide to #3" in his interview with the Coyotes. Cocky, but didn't back it up this year and thus leaning dangerously on the entitlement side.
