I do see a major problem. What if i have a case? I dont feel very comfortable taking it off. It wouldve been better if the connector was extended a bit so that it also would have fit with cases

One of the most useful uses for thermal imagers is viewing wildlife at night. Yet, it is very difficult to find any videos demonstrating their quality using them this way.

How can this device calibrate automatically? Unless it knows exactly what the material you're pointing it at is, or if you always have to carry around some back insulation tape for that purpose, I can't think of any other way. If the emissivity is set wrong, the temperature measurement can be WAY off, making this device useless, besides looking cool or some inaccurate relative comparison of temperatures...
@martinbinder6615
9 жыл бұрын
mariyuso There are two differnt "calibration" issues: a) Calibrating the detector (that's meant by auto-calibration): This is about the temperature of the sensor itself. The cam needs to know it's own temperature to get a correct measurement. That's the clicking noise you hear. The shutter closes and the sensor takes a measurement of his own thermal emission. b) Emissivity: You're right, there is no way for any thermal device to auto-recognize the emissivity coefficient. You have to set the material (and it's emissivity) at the software of the cam.

+jasonsteiner57 Yes it does offer several color palettes, including black/white. The full FLIR One user guide is available here: www.flir.com/flirone/press/FLIR-One-ios-android-user-guide.pdf

Are there any other reasons to buy this other than it being a really cool toy?
@GroupGets
9 жыл бұрын
+Mock slowmotion This definitely a fun toy, but there are also practical uses as well. You could use the FLIR One to determine where your car's engine may be overheating, making sure all the embers from a campfire are put out, finding out where the summer's heat may be leaking into your home, and more! It can be used to find studs, water pipes, overloaded circuits, clogs in pipes, missing insulation as well as water and air leaks. Not a toy, a diagnostic tool.

Can you take "sharp" macro photographs with Flir One?
@GroupGets
8 жыл бұрын
+grimmer2005 According to ArsTechnica there are iOS apps that offer that capability. This article offers an explanation: arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014/08/flir-one-gives-your-iphone-infrared-predator-vision/

But if it can take macrophotos comes down to the optics? Not the app. One must be able to focus the lenses for a near shot. Like the new Seek Thermal can do (but the first model could not). I wonder how close you can take a picture with Flir One.

can it see human heat from how much distance?
@slintank
8 жыл бұрын
+Wajid Bulledi the website says ''At about 100 feet, you can see the heat signature of a person. However, atmospheric conditions can influence the visible range. Dry, clear weather will provide a greater range than rainy, foggy, or humid conditions as water in the atmosphere can absorb infrared radiation before it reaches the sensor.''

And let's not forget the Flir One (for iOS & Android) is a disposable camera!! Yup, after it's internal rechargeable battery won't hold a charge, you'd need to keep it powered from an external tethered USB source (if that works) or just throw it away (but recycle) ! I Aspoke with Flir tech support and they don't have a program to install a new, fresh battery after the warranty, when its been used up. It's a sealed unit so "NO battery replacements after warranty is over", I was told. Bummer, your $250 camera now needs an external battery source or buy another!!! Sent it back till they fix this and add some features like; charging the iPhone and Flir with a feedthrough from the USB (Android has mini B type) input, using the Apples lightning connector for iOS (not a micro USB) etc. 🤔🙄😖

Replacing the battery is easy. Just unscrew the screws to take apart the camera. Fit new 3rd party or genuine flir battery. Job done. I can do that in under an hour.

Awesome camera, but kind of dumb why the iPhone version has a micro USB female charger connection, should have been a female lightning connection.

I use a Lightning extension cord. It really is absurd they made a product that only fits phones without cases on them. The extension cord is nice, though, as you can aim the camera around with one hand while keeping the screen comfortably in front of you.

Ummm, FLIR lists compatibility for only 9 devices. Plan for lots of returns right away plus a loss of consumer confidence in the brand.

"MSX Technology" ... It's just FLIR's rip-off of the "Canny Edge Detector" algorithm developed in 1986. Look it up! (Wikipedia or...) Everything about this company and it's ridiculously overpriced products, with non-user replaceable batteries rendering instruments useless and disposable,,, gives me the creeps. Someone really needs to create some competition for FLIR. When I received my device I couldn't believe that FLIR went with a non replaceable battery! WTF!! You're lucky if you get a couple of years out of any small rechargeable battery. Some may only last a matter of months!. What an utter design FAIL. After the battery goes bad, you're left with a $250 piece of junk plastic & silicon. It seems that the 5 star ratings are completely ignoring, or are oblivious this flaw. This design is truly an expensive, disposable waste of electronics.

Canny edge detection, right, but how does the camera calculates temperature? I understand your frustration with the battery, but did the camera work as expected?

Non user replaceable battery? Rubbish! Ever heard of small screw drivers. Unscrewing the cover and putting in a new battery is *not* difficult!!. Its not even soldered to the board, flir used a small connector. Why do people say non user replaceable battery when all they need to do is use a screw driver to take off the cover.
