When I was born my parents got a chest of drawers for my nursery at the thriftstore. Repainted it and it has folowed us along al this time. When I moved out I painted it white and when sanding i found al these other layers of paint that predated my parents work, clearly a multigenerational diy

I had my eye on various websites and stores for a coffee table to buy “someday, when I have money.” Took out the trash one night, there was a (probably IKEA) coffee table beside the dumpster because it was missing a leg. Picked it up, took it home, made a leg out of scrap wood, tightened the screws - BAM! Free coffee table!

Hello from California! I have found that secondhand shops in affluent areas have a better selection of secondhand items. In my experience, higher quality or gently used (or brand new) items are more readily available. And often less expensive than a brand new lower quality item serving the same function. Thanks for encouraging and inspiring people to buy secondhand!

Your flat is literal goals! And thanks for all the amazing tips!! As you said, chain store furniture is quite often lower quality. I love assembling it, but any time it needs to be moved, all heal breaks loose.

I have never owned a single new piece of furniture! When we bought our house we were very lucky and had family and friends gift us furniture, and have picked up a couple of pieces second hand from sellers online. I grew up in a wooden house that my parents renovated and they have a love for old furniture and an appreciation for second-hand things, so I was lucky enough to be surrounded by this my whole life! You don't get the quality and character of old pieces in new 'stuff'. It's magic!

My closet broke 2 weeks ago (it was cheap chip board). My mom told me to go to ikea and get a custom put together closet there but I was adamant to buy second hand. Found a beautiful solid wood closet I fell in love with immediately and bought it yesterday. I'm really happy with it even though I do think I might've paid a bit too much for it. Whatever, it sparks joy, that's what counts and hopefully it'll last longer than the previous one.

A good idea when transporting a ikea bookcase( like the Billy one) is to take it apart first. That has saved me during 6 moves!

haha that's true. Sadly, many pieces of furniture are not meant to be taken apart when it has been put together. But it's great when it is possible! ✌✌

Lovely video! My favourite second hand piece of furniture i have is this little end table i got for $10 at a thrift store, and it now holds my record player. My most recent is a white wicker shelf i bought on Kijiji (which is like Craigslist), and i love it!

i have purchased one brand new couch in my life. everything else has been secondhand, hand me down, thrifted, rummaged, or used furniture store purchase. i sold that couch after a year - i just got a facebook dining set for the first house i ever purchased. it was built in 53 so its a hand me down too. lol.

I don't think I own any "new" furniture. I always try to find everything second hand before resorting to purchasing new. I have many pieces that I love. Some I have upcy led and now they are perfect. I love your ideas about sourcing materials second hand such in the case of the tile.

I love second hand furniture. Most of the pieces in my house are second hand from relatives and friends. My favorite item is this dresser from my grandmother. Its so old and beautiful. I love to polish it with oil and make it look beautiful. I find the quality of the wood is so much better. I have had some second hand sofas but my current apartment is so small that I may have to buy one.

I'm incredibly lucky that both places I've lived have secondhand construction materials, furniture, etc. One was a Habitat for Humanity ReStore and the one where I currently live is just a resale/waste diversion shop. We found leftover tile we're using to redo my parent's flooring at the ReStore!

I buy second hand from The British Heart Foundation which is a charity shop in the UK. They sell large items of furniture and most of my stuff is from there. I’ve had some amazing bargains including a Chinese cupboard that I bought last week. It’s SO beautiful with huge ornate brass hinges and a circular brass plate which looks like a mandala over both doors. It’s also got a brass puzzle lock in the shape of a dragon to close it! It’s a family heirloom and I completely love it 🥰. It was £50 including delivery and I’ll keep it forever! 😊

All my furniture, except my bed & couch are second hand antique furniture ! I love it ! If you keep your eyes open on classifieds & Yard sales, second hand stores! And be patient for that specific great piece at a cheap price ! It can be done.. My items have been way cheaper than even WalMart cheap ass furniture. And simply beautiful. & solid wood! I never even go to regular stores, haven't for about 8 yrs.... :) Love it!

With the exception of a couple of items we already owned and our bed (which we did buy new), my partner and I kitted out our entire first flat together with second hand furniture. It wasn't always to our particular style but we could make it work easily enough, for example we cover our sofas with a variety of throws that are much more our style. Seems stupid to spend all that money and resources on brand new furniture when second hand works perfectly well!

Solid piece of wood and solid material rather than combined material or mixed material like chipboard or flakeboard. Get real piece of something. something that is easy to fix so you can have it for longer period of time. also, look for something that needs bit of fixing. like table or chair need a nail in the back or just a bit of paint job. it will be cheaper. Look for the material and afterwards if it's something that needs fixing. If material is good, then it will be quite cheap to fix it. thanks for the video, I will need to find some secondary funiture soon. I think it will help me a lot :)

Hiii! =) I agree with you in the beginning of your video. I love the style shabby chic/country/natural for my little apartment so in my living room all or almost is in white wood. My table, my magazine rack, my bed, a simple shelf and a little bedside table are second-hand (my boyfriend's parents owns). But my favourite is a old buffet in massive wood, we bought it online from a second-hand site and we went to a man house to search it, we re-painted in a blue petrol. I'm so proud of it! I will try to post you my buffet on IG if I can! =) Have a good evening!

Really debating buying a used sofa. Any insight? I’m worried about bedbugs and also what people do on their sofas, etc. Do you buy cheap and then pay to have cleaned or reupholstered? Many cute ones on Craigslist but I’m just concerned about the hygiene factor with them being fabric, etc. Those of you that grab used ones, walk me through what you do to get them ready for your home, etc? Thanks
