YA#48609 Nelles,Paso,Preston and last stop YTS. and back to YTS after serving prison time. Finally discharged my number after turning 25. and back to prison. I listen to your stories and I can tell you that you guys had a lot easier. I was doing the last part of my bid in 1989 and Gang banging was at its all time high and no love no mercy. If you fell leva you were just that and you can never come back from that. If you went to the joint after being leva in YA it followed you and you got dealt with. lots have changed. I can remember the dudes from F13 and PBS were clicked up against the dudes from 18st and 38st. Mandatory get off while walking the trade line in YTS. in 88 I heard belles stopped all macho; movement and vans would take you to school. Nelles was cottage against cottage and everyone had to get off mandatory. the staff would put us on freezes for weeks at a time just feeding us cheese sandwiches. The dudes that had room in nelles were honor rooms. SMH

My brother and about 4 other dudes in 78/79 took a pair of garden tree branch clippers to cut a hole in the fence. First while they were cleaning the grounds, one of them was messing around and cut the handle on a metal trash can, it worked! Then thought it would cut through the fence. Well, it did quicker then they realized. So cutting the fence so it was like a door they could just push aside and climb out. It along the side were there was train track that were no longer used. 5 or 6 dudes ran through the fence and they took off. Just as the last guy was going through a counselor saw him taking off. The staff quickly notified others and the search was on. With in a couple of hours they were all captured, having really no where to go. I use to go visit him there. I used my older brother I. D. As I was only 15, my older was 19. Remember this was in 79. I don't recall seeing that big lock down building that looks like a real prison. 2 teir cell type lockdown. Man, I could only imagine what went on in there😳😳

You said u didn't know about any escape attempts. In mid 1990, 2 black guys from carter unit jumped over their cement rec wall. The female staff were lazy and corrupt. Well, they climbed light pole and on top tried to jump over two fences and land on cars as landing parked on hospital side. The first guy almost made it but fell in between fences. Landed in deep mud because it rained nite before. Other guy panicked and ran back to unit. Since that day, that's why rack light pole has barbed wire around them.

A few different factors. First the CYA system was seen as a failure. High recidivism rate & multiple allegations of abuse were being reported. Second the state changed the age of eligibility to go to from from 16 to 14 so a lot of kids were being sent to prison instead of YA. That caused the population to drop.

To tell you the truth he was a chill dude he didn't bother no one. He would stay to himself I think he new he was out numbered. Many CYA war dogs stories I seen with my own 👀 eyes. I remember a Chinese man staff worked for a week before being stabbed in the neck , a Ward from "San Ja". Tooks his keys and open the door next to his room stabbed the ward next to him that was Wolfing ,"talking smack". Stabbed him and try to A-wall " ,Scape". He was caught and later transferred to Y.T.S. True Story ✌️ YA#74774 from 1992 - to 9/9/1999 released paroled.
