@@JonAutomates I honestly think the premise for Secret Invasion, if they weren't going to get the superheroes, was weak from the get-go. You don't always have to follow the comics, but if you're going to deviate, it needs to be rock-solid which in this case, wasn't. If you look at the poster for Secret Invasion you pretty much know the entire show.

There’s a lot I could say about the modern MCU and badly they’ve bungled this franchise for phase four and five but I will stick on topic. Secret Invasion should have been a phase but a very simple pitch I would have done is as follows: make the Secret Warriors. For context, Nick Fury leaves shield in the comics and forms a black op squad of trusted superpowered individuals to take down threats that the normal heroes couldn’t. You could have had it where this group could have been formed to take down skrulls in hiding. Have Quake( who first appeared in that team and Chloe Bennet from Agents of Shield who was solid) and go from there. That would have allowed Marvel to have their cake and eat it to where they don’t have to pay for the big actors and actually give Fury something to do other than being a depressed looser.
@danjager6200

That would keep the acting budget more under control. Camera tricks and practical effects could have kept some of the FX budget under control. Ultimately they would never have used the plot from the comics because they weren't aware of the plot from the comics. Because they didn't know anything about that plot they missed out on years worth of ideas to draw from. Toss in studio meddling and there was little chance of success.

Secret Invasion has some real audacity using ai "art" for their intro. I don’t care about how there's "thematic reasons" for it, it sets a really bad precedent, and the mcu built its empire on the backs of the art medium. The mcu doesn't exist without comics and the artists who made them. The creators not even reading the comics is just the icing on top.

It’s called the Marvel CINEMATIC Universe. They should keep it CINEMATIC. Honestly, Daredevil and Punisher and Jessica Jones and Iron Fist should have all been Marvel FILMS in the Street Saga. Films are where you make your money, NOT TELEVISION shows.

The problem with messaging in media isn't actually the messaging. Most media for thousands of years has had a message. Heck the original Sumerian Gilgamesh (before the Epic reboot by the Babylonians) had a message about what the duty of a ruler was. The problem with messaging is that it is done INSTEAD of plot and character development. Captain Marvel wasn't given any character development. Another issue is that the message isn't about the message. She Hulk took a stand against the gender imbalance in the legal profession. It ignores the fact that 55% of students in law school are women and the legal profession in general is one of the most gender balanced. In other words, the message itself didn't matter to the creators of the show enough to do even basic research.

Great video. Your analysis is always on point and I look forward to watching your channel grow significantly as you deserve. I’m shocked at how little interest there seems to be in this show. I had high hopes but am really disappointed with the writing. The bright points of the show are Ben Mendelsohn and Olivia Colman.

Mendesohn is fantastic but I think Olivia Colman's talents are slightly wasted in the show. The excitement for the show was there initially, but the drop off has been massive. It's not a awful show, but it's clear it's missing something.

I think they vastly underestimated the amount of people who knew about the Secret Invasion storyline. Moreover, it seems they also forgot that a lot of people, when they hear of a certain story being adapted, they tend to look up the original work that it's being adapted from. It probably doesn't help for someone to see all those comic book covers with tons of different heroes only to find that none of them are in the show.

@@JonAutomates I think some stuff that worked the best in the MCU so far was EXACTLY because many of the creators are actually FANS of the comics, like Scott Derrickson who was a Doctor Strange fan, and even Benedict read many of the comics so he knew how to portray Stephen better. That gives quality to the work, because they get a better idea of what fans would like to see when expecting an adaptation and the original ideas of the character creators. When you have a team that legit know what they are doing, things get great, like The Walking Dead, Greg Nicotero read the comics and adapted some panels almost to perfection, Kirkman who wrote the comics participated creating the series, even the actors like Andrew Lincoln READ the comics to enter the world and drama of the characters, and that worked so well, even in TWD was a low budget series, it did SO MUCH and for some years it was the TOP of series entertainment. Now Marvel has SO MUCH MONEY to invest in their movies and the dude doesn't even know about the arc he's adapting?? WHAT?? Dude don't have to COPY it or anything, but at least read the thing to FEEL THE VIBES AND MAGNITUDE of the original story??

I really dont get marvel lol they cant even follow their initial setup.............. Find a leader/head of MCU. Spiderman was perfect....hes young but could easily lead into Dr. Strange/Mr Fantastic stepping up and then you can have Venom/Knull/Skaar/Sentry/Hulk but they let dumass directors ruin concepts with previous films and then you literally just threw whatever at the wall to see what sticks and everything came falling lol Why wasnt Captain Marvel able to find a single planet to house the Skrulls? Even after the 5 year blip? Not a single planet? Nick in the 90s had the computers with the ass on the back..... he sure asf wasnt finding empty planets for them to chill on. Are ppl forgetting that Maria Hill was also snapped the very same time as Fury and yet hes the only one affected? lol Like fr this formula wasnt complicated lmao.......I genuinely dont know wtf is happening at Hollyweird, not my millions being burned before my eyes. Like even with Kraven....... hes a Spiderman affiliate and instead of Voodoo or a super serum or even a fking heart shaped herb........ you make it lion period blood....... lol cool...........Still no mention of the Celestial that I'm sure is killing the Earths core....... oh with Knull they would have a reason to explain more about Celestials.....since homie deadass overtakes them and has a army with them lol ya know...... A Big bad that has lesser levels? Venom, Carnage......... things to take down that add to the build up. Oh whats that? The Necro sword? You mean All Black that was made from Knull? Oh look..... Gorr but theyve already ruined that character (could even give reason to why Knulls Blade wants the Gods to die)..... Easiest bag of my life lol but they wanna train wreck instead.

For real! Gorr was a 3 movie baddie at least! They didn't even show him killing any gods, just the aftermath of him killing some frozen dude that no one's ever heard of. Gorr was the best part of Love and Thunder, the rest of the movie was checks in a box to me. They made Thor a nearly incompetent dumbass, brought Jane back to make female Thor after dumping her in prior movies, made Zeus a prancing prick, etc. The movie let me down playing social politics.

I enjoy the TV shows, they just need to make them good. Bad writting, bad plot lines, political plot lines, bad CGI, all really mess them up for fans. They dont have to stay true to the comics, but dont spit in out face and tell us its raining! Writters and directors with no knowledge of the subject matter is not going to go well. With the multiverse available to writers and directors it opens up the Marvel universe to so much creative license, we just want something good! Just stay true to the characters or give us a compelling reason for the change. Like Samual Jackson as Nick Fury, best decision Marvel could have made, and now we have Kang, who is awesome, but why does Reed Richards have to be a black man? Does that mean the Fantastic 4 are all going to be black? If so, give us a non-diversity reason in the universe, make it interesting and give the actors the lines and sets they need to make the Fantastic Four a great movie. Trying to save money on writters, sets, and CGI to save money on production costs is going to make fans less likely to go see future Marvel movies in theaters when we are just going to get subpar movies. Ill wait for it to drop on Disney+ or spend $20 and watch it with my family on Amazon prime i stead of spending $100 going to the theater.
