Special Thanks - Ruchira Thilanga (Architect Student)
In this video, we are discussing passive cooling techniques used by ancient Sri Lankan when they build their houses. Courtyards, plinth level, eaves (overhang) of roofs, walling materials and roofing materials, orientation of building are more important to reduce unwanted heat inside the building. These things have been considered in typical ancient Sri Lankan houses both Mansions (Walawwa) and wattle houses (Katumati).
You can discuss these techniques with your architect or draught person when you plan your architectural plan of the house since most of the concepts are still valid for modern houses in Sri Lanka.
